Jeremie Huchet, Muscadet Les Montys Le Parc 2021
Regular price $23.00 Save $-23.00Variety: Melon de Bourgogne
Jeremie Huchtet is the next in line to carry on the family legacy started 4 generations ago. This transition happened in 2001 and his first step of action was acquiring more top tier vineyards plots around Nantes and converting them all to organic. The dedication of capturing the coastal influence of the Atlantic and showcasing that Muscadet can be everything from Parisian cafe wine to serious vibrant and elegant wine. To do this, everything comes down to the work in the vines. Jeremie is known for the amount of time he spends walking the parcels, having eyes on his vines to understand and highlight growth year after year. The cellar is full of concrete, both glass-lined buried in the earth and eggs for a natural sur-lie movement.
Jeremie is also one of the voices pushing for cru communal appellations within the region. This bottling of ‘Les Montys le Parc’ is from the cru Château-Thébau famed for its deep granite soils that are covered with a sandy-loam. These soils are igneous rocks that are incredibly dark in color and found deep on the ocean floor crust. It is unique that they are on the surface here in Nantes and difficult to duplicate anywhere else in the world.

Centopassi, Terre Siciliane Pietre a Purtedda da Ginestra 2021
Regular price $38.00 Save $-38.00Variety: Nerello Mascalese
Centopassi is the winemaking entity of the Consorzio Libera Terra Mediterraneo Cooperativa Sociale Onlus, a group of social co-operatives that cultivate lands seized from the mafia in Sicily. The cooperative oversees 94 hectares of vineyard area. Giovanni Ascione of Nanni Copè oversees the winemaking operation. The Upper Belice Corleonese area is particularly well suited to producing high-quality wines. Limestone peaks pop up along the highlands, and Mediterranean breezes keep the vines healthy. These high-altitude vines produce elegant, fresh, drinkable wines. In January, Decanter magazine said “On Sicily, Centopassi is the star. Not only does it make excellent, high-altitude wine, but it does so with grapes grown on land once owned by the Sicilian mafia...It’s remarkable what altitude can do.”
On the southern outskirts of the city Palermo is the vineyard of Portella della Ginestra situated at a staggering 1000 feet in elevation. As Centopassi’s vineyards were once owned by the mafia, this vineyard was once the site of an unfortunate massacre, and the vineyard was named in memory of those victims.

Girolamo Russo, Etna Bianco 'Nerina' 2022
Regular price $45.00 Save $-45.00Variety: Carricante, Catarratto, Inzolia, Grecanico, Minnella, Coda di volpe
Giuseppe Russo left his native Sicily for a time, trained as a pianist and music teacher, and studied literature. But when his father, Girolamo, died, Giuseppe returned in 2005 to make “the best wines (I) can in this exceptional, often challenging but uniquely beautiful area.” Although the Russo family calls the area in and around Passopisciaro home, it is an interesting and dynamic place that is attracting winemakers from the all over the world. The Russos have 26 hectares of land, 15 planted to vineyards and the rest to olives and hazelnut groves. Their vineyards are on the north face of Europe’s largest active volcano, Mount Etna, in the north-eastern corner of Sicily.
This wine is named “Nerina” after Giuseppe Russo’s mother. Nerina represents Sicily’s main white varieties. The blend is Carricante, Catarratto, and other indigenous varieties, also blendinging from three well-known contradas. The wine ages in mostly stainless steel and a touch of used oak.

Hirsch Vineyards, Pinot Noir San Andreas Fault 2020
Regular price $90.00 Save $-90.00Variety: Pinot Noir
Stand above the fog line and glimpse the power of the Pacific at 1500 ft. elevation and you’ll begin to understand what attracted David Hirsch to his extreme site back in 1980. Hirsch was not born into the wine world. Rather he was a lover of pinot noir, more specifically Burgundy, to which I can very much relate. Buying and selling textiles between the US and France, he reached a turning point. The lure of a quiet farm life with his family brought him to Fort-Ross Seaview, on the Sonoma coast, just three hours from San Francisco. The property sits on a ridge line, cleared of redwoods and fir trees with a climate that is incredibly coastal. Straddling the San Andreas Fault, the soils are intensely complex. Most world class vineyard sites are known for only having a few soils. Hirsch, on the other hand, has 44 different soil types. It should come as no surprise that this is one of the most expressive and important vineyards in the US.
The San Andreas Fault Estate Pinot Noir is the flagship wine from Hirsch, and the wine that represents the summation of the complex vineyard. David Hirsch says if you drink only one of his wines this should be it. It's 100% estate and 100% Hirsch.

Venica & Venica, Collio Friulano 2022
Regular price $30.00 Save $-30.00Variety: Friulano
Daniele Venica purchased the plot Ronco del Ceró where he first planted Sauvignon in 1930. Three generations later, great grandson Giampaolo has taken over the estate, a true testimony to the tradition of keeping winemaking in the family. Venica now has 40 hectares all within the DOC—Denomination of Controlled Origin—of Collio. Sons Gianni (agronomist), Giorgio (cellar master), and grandson Giampaolo oversee operations supplemented by help from several family members. They believe their traditions must be enhanced through continuous research and innovation, but a relationship with nature is of utmost importance.
Venica is known for their textural and highly aromatic whites that see little or no wood. Friulano is the name of the variety in this bottling, underlying the strong connection to the area of Friuli. It was formerly called “Tocai,” but too often became confused with the Tokaji grape of Hungary, and so in 2008 the European Community (Hungary and Italy) came to an agreement to ban the use of “Tocai” in Italy.

Corzano e Paterno, Bianco Il Corzanello 2022
Regular price $20.00 Save $-20.00Variety: Chardonnay, Sémillon, Trebbiano, Malvasia, and Sauvignon Blanc
Wendel Gelpke, a Swiss architect, fell madly in love with these romantic hillsides. The Corzano property was purchased back in 1969, and then the neighboring property of Paterno in 1974. These hillsides are separated from the Chianti Classico subzone by the Via Cassia, a road that runs parallel to the river Pisa. Farming here has always been organic and her Sardinian sheep herd roams the rows to naturally fertilize the vines; talk about sustainability. As is classic for the area, the properties produce mainly Sangiovese. Wendel and the family own and operate the winery; and keep very occupied by making their own cheese and olive oil.

Cantine Barbera, Coste al Vento Grillo 2021
Regular price $26.00 Save $-26.00Variety: Grillo
Marilena Barbera is proprietor and winemaker at Cantine Barbera, a boutique winery located in Menfi, on the Southwest coast of Sicily. Her family has been grape producers for three generations. From her grandfather who planted the first indigenous vineyards in the early 1920’s to her father who walked in his parent’s footsteps and selected the grape varieties which would best adapt to the land’s micro-climatic conditions. Her commitment is to produce high quality wines only with the grapes grown and selected in their 30 hectares in Tenuta Belicello, only a few steps away from the Mediterranean Sea while continuing to carry on her father’s dream.
“Coste al Vento” means “coasts to the wind” in Italian, referring to the Grillo vines that absorb the winds from the sea which are full of mineral deposits. Everything about this wine is purposefully made dry; it is harvested early, undergoes skin contact for seven days in steel tanks, and then completes fermentation until bone dry. The winemaking process is a natural evolution from start to finish.

Venica & Venica, Sauvignon Ronco del Cero 2022
Regular price $34.00 Save $-34.00Variety: Sauvignon Blanc
“Cerò” is the name of the village where Daniele Venica of the first generation purchased the family’s country house in the hills of Collio. “Ronca del Cero” represents the family’s origins which has carried over through four generations. This sees a modest amount of skin contact for 18-20 hours. A small part of the juice ages on the lees in small barrels while the rest of the wine is aged in stainless steel. This wine over delivers as a food pairing, making an excellent companion to ham, as well as asparagus, and vegetable creams.

COS, Pithos Rosso 2021
Regular price $36.00 Save $-36.00Variety: Frappato and Nero d’Avola
Giusto Occhipinti of COS is one of the most critical names in Italy. COS was founded by three friends to make traditional wine with respect for the place the grapes are grown. During their first harvest in 1980, they were the youngest wine producers in Italy. The acronym of their three last names forms “COS.” They were early adopters to Biodynamic farming, starting a movement on the island, which are still golden standards. The friends are hard workers, using an old winery given to them by a family friend and opting to use terracotta vases for ageing, a completely neutral vessel. Sicily has just one DOCG—Cerasuolo di Vittoria; the friends were the first winery to bottle a DOCG wine in Sicily. COS is located in Vittoria, the farthest tip of southeastern Sicily. The area recalls that of Africa, with its climate and land of red, ochre, and yellow tones.
This is Frappato and Nero d’Avola coming from an estate vineyard in Vittoria from red soils. The wine is aged in amphora, a clay jar classically used for ancient Mediterranean wines. It is followed by 2-3 months in concrete and then another 3 months in bottle before release.

Alessandro Viola, 'Note di Rosso' Terre Siciliane 2021
Regular price $30.00 Save $-30.00Variety: Syrah and Nero D'Avola
Alessandro Viola is known by some as the Sicilian wine master. His wines hail from Alcamo in the northwestern corner of the island, right on the coast. He has just seven hectares, but plants all the classic varieties of the island, both white and red. Being that small, he’s able to oversee all operations in the vineyard and in the winery. His winemaking philosophy is pure and simple like his wine; “make wine using only grapes,” which drives home his natural winemaking style.
“Notes of Red” is a blend of the indigenous Nero d’Avola and the non-indigenous Syrah. It’s fruity, crunchy, and spicy. The winemaking process is completely natural, and includes the phrase “Senza Solfiti Aggiunti” which means no added sulphites. It’s aged in chestnut barrels, classic for the reds of Sicily.

Railsback Freres, Clairette Blanche 2021
Regular price $35.00 Save $-35.00Variety: Clairette Blanche
The story of two brothers: even while still in high school, Eric was already collecting bottles of prized top dollar Burgundy and Chablis, hiding them under his bed when he started college. Lyle’s quest for knowledge landed him in Austria where he met one of his most important friends in the industry, sommelier Rajat Parr. After a decade of restaurant work, Eric returned to Santa Barbara to start his own project, Lieu Dit, inspired by the Loire. Older brother Lyle had also worn many hats in the industry, ultimately landing a job for one of the most esteemed importers Kermit Lynch, leading regional sales. After leading separate lives for some time, the brothers both felt a calling to merge their two paths, which is how Railsback Frères came to be born.
Inspired by the seaside village of Cassis in Provence, this Clairette Blanche takes on a completely waxy, saline and minerally tone. The fruit comes from Nolan Ranch in Santa Ynez. The ageing process is very similar to the Provencal style: wild yeast fermentation and a lengthy time spent in neutral oak.

Hirsch Vineyards, Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2021
Regular price $90.00 Save $-90.00Variety: Chardonnay
Stand above the fog line and glimpse the power of the Pacific at 1500 ft. elevation and you’ll begin to understand what attracted David Hirsch to his extreme site back in 1980. Hirsch was not born into the wine world. Rather he was a lover of pinot noir, more specifically Burgundy, to which I can very much relate. Buying and selling textiles between the US and France, he reached a turning point. The lure of a quiet farm life with his family brought him to Fort-Ross Seaview, on the Sonoma coast, just three hours from San Francisco. The property sits on a ridgeline, cleared of redwoods and fir trees with a climate that is incredibly coastal. Straddling the San Andreas Fault, the soils are intensely complex. Most world class vineyard sites are known for only having a few soils. Hirsch, on the other hand, has 44 different soil types. It should come as no surprise that this is one of the most expressive and important vineyards in the US.
In this rare, sought after Chardonnay from the Hirsch estate is the mentality of creating a wine completely from the expression of the land—fruit and oak coming in second. David Hirsch originally had the crazy idea to plant Nebbiolo at this site, but Burt Williams of Williams Selyem convinced him he was nuts and to plant Chardonnay instead. The vineyard is within the Fort Ross Seaview appellation in Sonoma Coast, complete with sunshine and looming fogs from the coast. Oak ageing involves Austrian and French oak barrels, 27% of which are new.

COS, Terre Siciliane Extra Brut Metodo Classico 2018
Regular price $50.00 Save $-50.00Variety: Frappato
From the brilliant minds of COS wines comes an uncommon style of Champagne method… Frappato! This has length, texture, and lively acidity, anything you could ask for in a sparkler. The wine is aged in amphora and produced with no added sugar.
