Variety: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir
Of all the Champagne houses, Vilmart is steadfast to its origins. Founded in 1890, founder Désiré never went the route of the negociant. The family has retained estate vineyards from the get go, unlike other Champagne producers who often eventually transition over to this practice. The Vilmart family is also an enormous proponent for sustainable farming. The head of the fifth generation is Laurent Champs, who belongs to a local organization called “Ampelos,” which reiterates the family’s priority for growing vines that see no herbicides or pesticides.
“When I think of finesse in Champagne, Vilmart is one of the first names that come to my mind.” - Antonio Galloni
This is Premier Cru fruit coming from the village Rilly-la Montagne in the appellation of Reims. The wine combines reserve wine from 2015 and 2016 along with the 2017 vintage. The wine spends ten months in large oak casks. We’ve nicknamed it “Baby Krug” due to its richness and weight, though with affordability.
