Variety: Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon
Tenuta di Valgiano is by no means a new estate or producer, though they are new to Ohio as of summer 2023. The Cru visited this property and were immediately charmed by winemaker Laura di Collobiano and partner Moreno Petrini. Their property is located in Lucca, the coastal part of Tuscany, which is lushly adorned with forests and vines. While the duo make Sangiovese, they also grow international varieties like Merlot and Syrah. “Practical biodynamic” farming is by and large at the forefront of their terroir-driven wines. In addition to wine, Valgiano makes delicious wild honey and extra virgin olive oil which we’re lucky enough to get our hands on.
The lineup of Valgiano wines typically skew classic, but this wine has the direct appeal factor. The wine and label are both vibrant and playful. The label is an homage to both the nearby town of Lucca and Valgiano’s farming style which is depicted by the biodynamic horn.
