In the portfolio of Kermit Lynch, there are the old reliables; Domaine Roland Lavantureux is the most reliable of the old reliables. Roland is notorious for his no-nonsense personality. One of the best examples of this is in a quote to Kermit himself: “I don’t know why the INAO named some vines ‘Chablis’ and others ‘Petit.’ When I stand in the middle of my vineyard, the row to my left is Chablis, to the right it is Petit Chablis, but you can’t see any difference.” With this mentality, his ability to remain consistent in quality to both Chablis and Petit Chablis is unparalleled. Today, Roland’s two sons have taken over the domaine; Arnaud has taken the task of vines and cellar while David takes the lead in marketing and sales.
Vauprin is known as the signature of the domaine coming from the vineyard of the same name. Though it only has village level classification, the vineyard is known to be one of the highest altitude parcels in Chablis, coming from vines ranging 25-45 years in age. The fermentation takes place in stainless, though the aging process takes place between stainless, small new barrels, and new older barrels.
