Imagine making wine on a large peninsula sticking out into the Mediterranean Sea. The region of Faro is just that, jutting out into the Strait of Messina. Even if you are Italian, this is a wine region very few people have ever heard of and rarely have the opportunity to taste, since only five wineries are located on the Peninsula. The explosive popularity of the wines of Mount Etna just to the south has taken the wine world by storm over the last few years. Now the wines from surrounding regions are gaining attention for their quality and personality. Giovanni Scarfone is the owner and winemaker for Bonavita. His focus is organic farming on the hill behind the main village of Faro. The high winds from the Strait of Messina protect the wines from the heat, and the end product is something extraordinary.
This rosato certainly drinks like its just for fun with its juiciness and playfulness, but origins are anything but! The oldest vines grown in Faro are 80 years old while the youngest are 10 years. It's aged in both steel and cement and ready to drink!
