Follin-Arbelet, Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Les Vercots 2022
Variety: Pinot Noir
The Follin-Arbelet family has farmed in Aloxe-Corton and the surrounding villages of the northern Côte de Beaune for several generations. The domaine’s holdings include parcels in Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses, and several sections on the Corton hill. Vineyard work is based on low yields, manual canopy management, and maintaining healthy soils through sustainable practices. All fruit is harvested by hand.
The cellar follows a consistent approach from year to year. Fermentations use native yeasts, and tanks are managed with gentle pump-overs or pigeage depending on conditions. Wines are aged mainly in older barrels, with limited new oak, to avoid masking differences between vineyard sites. The domaine keeps each parcel separate through élevage, allowing the characteristics of the individual climats to be tracked and understood over time.
Follin-Arbelet is often referenced by Burgundy writers for its long-standing focus on traditional farming and its collection of well-placed vineyards around the Corton hill. Because the estate remains small and family run, production is limited and allocations are modest. The domaine’s consistency and its holdings in several historically important sites have kept it on the radar of collectors who follow northern Côte de Beaune domaines closely.
Les Vercots is a premier cru on the western side of Aloxe-Corton. The slope faces east–southeast and sits on a mix of brown limestone and deeper clay. These soils provide good drainage and support steady ripening. Fruit is hand harvested and sorted before fermenting with native yeasts. Depending on the year, a portion of whole clusters may be included. Aging takes place mostly in used barrels, with time in barrel determined by the development of the wine rather than a fixed schedule. The domaine’s approach in Les Vercots remains focused on maintaining the site’s natural features from one vintage to the next.
