The Laherte brothers, Thierry and Christian, are sixth generation winemakers in the Valle de la Marne of Champagne. Aurelien Laherte represents the seventh generation and has been taking the winery to a new dimension, while still following in the footsteps of his family. They have 75 different plots across Epernay, Vallée de la Marne, and the Cotes des Blancs. The mantra with the family is to let the terroir speak for itself with a deep lamb respect for tradition, heritage, and land. Each example of Laherte Fréres is more stunning than the last, from the Ultradition Extra Brut, a return to basics, or perhaps their Rosé de Meunier, a deep yet refreshing example of artistry.

This is the wine that was the discovery of Laherte for us. All the fruit comes from 35-year-old vines from the best parcels in Epernay. Half of the blend is reserve wine from previous vintages. It gets aging on fine lees and in barrels. No dosage is added for this dry and fresh Champagne.

From the same Bordeaux house that brought us Château La Grolet. Even though Château Peybonhomme Les Tours began six generations ago in 1895, this generation begins with the union of two humans of different wine-related backgrounds. Jean-Luc Hubert descended from a long line of sailors who navigated the Gironde river utilizing “scow” boats to transport wine. Alternatively, Catherine came from a long line of winemakers, her great grandfather having acquired Peybonhomme in 1890. Both of their ancestors worked extensively with one another making and transporting wine, unbeknownst to them the union that would one day happen. The kids have grown and now assist in making beautiful, natural wines and following in their parents’ footsteps.

This is Chateau Peybonhomme’s main wine offering insight of what Right Bank Bordeaux can be at incredible value. It’s raised entirely in cement, no oak used. It can be drunk right away, and opened with all sorts of meats and mushroom dishes.

Bertrand-Delespierre, Champagne 1er Cru Brut 'Enfant de La Montagne' NV

This relatively new Champagne winemaking family only just planted roots in 1980 in the Montagne de Reims. The names come from both the husband and wife who began this domaine, Didier Bertrand and Chantal Delespierre. The second generation has been spearheaded by their children, Adrien and Clemence. With their generation, they look to lower dosage (sugar) levels, which only continues to highlight the lands with which they work. They work with 24 hectares in over four Premier Cru villages. For making just 5000 cases a year from prized vineyards, the value for these grower Champagnes is absolutely insane.

Using all three of the main Champagne varieties, fruit for this comes from all the Premier Cru villages they work with. Most of the wine comes from 2017 with the other 40% coming from other vintages. Their wine ages for a minimum four years on its lees before it’s released. ‘Enfant de la Montagne’ translates to ‘Infant of the Mountain.’

Meeting owner and winemaker Hervé Dubourdieu is almost like meeting a surgeon. Dressed to perfection and walking with confidence, his estate is located in the southern end of the famed Bordeaux wine region in Haut Barsac, famous for white wine, and more famous for dessert wine made from the noble mold, botrytis. I remember walking around the winery and feeling that if I put on a white glove I would not find a spec of dust, let alone dirt, anywhere in the winery. This cleanliness shows up in the wines. Always pristine and focused, the aromatics are fresh and the palate clean. The dessert wines produced here are what many of the estates in Barsac and neighboring village of Sauternes focus on. When a vineyard does not obtain the noble rot and the airflow is just too much to create the famous mold, it is still perfect to produce dry, fresh white wine blended with Sémillon, Muscadelle and Sauvignon Blanc. No oak is used in the winemaking, and flavors of citrus and grass come through. Due to the river emptying into the Atlantic and the humid air blowing inland down into the vineyards, the wines are incredible with light seafood salads or simple preparations that highlight lemon.

Benedicte & Stephane Tissot, Cremant du Jura Extra Brut NV

Bénédicte et Stéphane Tissot are a powerhouse winemaking couple based out of Arbois in the Jura region. Their perspective plays vital to the style of their wine. They favor natural wines as opposed to industrial ones, and wines that show off nature’s gifts versus winemaking. Their wines have been certified biodynamic by Demeter. Many of Jura’s wines go for an oxidative style; their wines are not this. They prefer a reductive style, the opposite of the local style. Their love is shown by their passion and their drive to make several different wines.

Vines are full of clay-limestone which makes for a wine full of good acidity and structure. It is fermented in stainless steel and then goes on to age for four months on the lees. Second fermentation begins, then the bottles age for 18 months before they’re disgorged and then released.

Julien Braud is an exciting young winemaker, one of the few next generation winemakers in Sevre et Maine, who has taken over part of his family's estate with the mission of pushing the limits of Muscadet and its identity grape, Melon de Bourgogne. The area in general has seen a decline in producers and vineyards in recent years, but Julien Braud is on a mission to bring emphasis and notoriety back to this area, and so far is undeterred! Not only is he farming sustainably and recently certified organic, he brings a quality-minded approach and a sense of whimsy to an otherwise neglected area. His wines effectively over-deliver in quality at their modest price points.

This is Julien’s signature wine hailing from the appellation of Muscadet Sevre et Maine in the western Loire Valley. While full of acidity and minerality, and plenty of fruitiness, the wine is intensified by licorice and floral notes. The Muscadet is aged on its lees for one year to strengthen all its components, including its rich texture.

From the same Bordeaux house that brought us Château La Grolet. Even though Château Peybonhomme Les Tours began six generations ago in 1895, this generation begins with the union of two humans of different wine-related backgrounds. Jean-Luc Hubert descended from a long line of sailors who navigated the Gironde river utilizing “scow” boats to transport wine. Alternatively, Catherine came from a long line of winemakers, her great grandfather having acquired Peybonhomme in 1890. Both of their ancestors worked extensively with one another making and transporting wine, unbeknownst to them the union that would one day happen. The kids have grown and now assist in making beautiful, natural wines and following in their parents’ footsteps.

Peybohomme takes a traditional Bordeaux Blanc blend and creates a satisfying dry white with equal parts Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. 40% of the wine ferments in new barrels while the rest takes place in concrete. The ageing process takes place over six months while the winemaking process keeps in tune with the biodynamic calendar.

Pattes Loup, Chablis 'Vent d'Ange' 2021

Pattes Loup means “wolf’s paw” and is the name of the estate of one of the most exciting winemakers to come out of Chablis. Thomas Pico started his estate in Chablis in 2005 inherited from his family. Up until this point, they had been making good Chablis, but nothing with personality or vigor. Fortunately Thomas’ grandfather planted vines on the sides of several steep hillsides, some up to 300 feet in elevation. Thomas decided to go against the wishes of his father, turning the estate into organic farming and utilizing lower yield control, ultimately going for quality over quantity. For such a young winemaker, Thomas is wise beyond his years.

This is a Chablis from an iconic producer that deserves more than its general Chablis designation allows. These vines were planted in 1951, making them almost 70 years in age. The wine is fermented and aged in both concrete and stainless; no oak! Vent d’Ange means wind of the angel.

Ermitage du Pic Saint Loup has quite the legend following it. In medieval times, there were three lords of the Languedoc entranced by the beauty of a princess. She vowed to give herself to the most gallant, Christian man. The lords traveled to Jerusalem on a crusade to defend the tomb of Christ; upon returning, they discovered the princess’ death. In their grief, they each retreated to nearby mountains, living their lives as hermits. “Ermitage du Pic Saint Loup” translates to a hermit dwelling; Saint Loup Peak was named for one of the princess’ suitors. The three Ravaille brothers now operate the winery, their family having lived in the Languedoc for over 1000 years. The emblem of three fish not only reiterates the story of the three suitors, but also the fraternal bond of the three brothers.

Blended together are the classic varieties of the Languedoc: Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvedre from 40-50 year old vines. Ageing takes place in barrels over one year, 10-20% of which is new. This bottle is one with enormous ageing potential.

The Henri Costal project is a recent collaboration between great Chablis winemaker Romaine Collet and American importer, Kermit Lynch. The project is a special ode to Henri Costal, Romaine’s great-grandfather. Both this classic label and winemaking are methods of preserving historical European styles, easy to overlook today. The uniqueness of the Costal Chablis project is its exclusivity to the American market. The project began as a simple barrel tasting and eventually resulted in legendary wines. The Chablis speak to a sense of place with purity and finesse. The label keeps its secret here as the wine is actually made by Domaine Jean Collet, one of the most standout producers in Chablis, a family domaine since 1792.

“Les Truffieres” is a special partnership of the Costal project with winemaker Bernard Raveneau, the master of Chablis. It hails from the vineyard of the same name, which means “Truffles,” just north of the village of Chablis. The result is a vinification in stainless steel, barrel, and foudre, and a wine alluding to an essence of truffles, leading to why the vineyard may have been called “Les Truffieres.”

The Goisot family hails from the small appellation of Saint-Bris, which geographically speaking, is part of Chablis, but was exiled from the appellation after phylloxera. While the history of winemaking in Burgundy dates back centuries, Jean-Hugues Goisot was among Burgundy's earliest fathers of biodynamic viticulture. His son, Guillaume, maintains this rigorous commitment with the family today. The Goisot family knows that in order to be one of the top producers in Burgundy, especially within an appellation that fought long and hard for a share of the spotlight, the wines would need to shine even brighter. They have a firm understanding of the region’s terroir; their wines consistently radiate quality and value.

Aligote is the less popular Burgundy counterpart to Chardonnay, but undeservedly so. Aligote needs less ageing, and is able to be drunk young while many of the regions Chardonnays continue their time in the cellar. This Aligote is aged in stainless steel with a hefty minerality from the clay and fossilized oyster shells below the vines in Saint-Bris.

Benoit Daridan took over the family winery in 2001 after many years of study and work experience around the world. As the seventh generation to take over the small 15 hectare farm, Benoit has worked tirelessly to protect and promote the family traditions of passion for the regions terror. The vineyard is perfectly positioned between arguably the Loire Valley’s most two most famous properties: Chateau de Cheverny and Chateau de Chambord. While most of the vineyard is made up of young vines, they do pride themselves on a tiny two hectare plot of 50 year old vines.

This Sauvignon Blanc is about as fresh and lively as it gets. Expect passionfruit, citrus, and something minerally that suggests cotton or sand. This ages only in stainless steel to be as fresh as possible. Enjoy this immediately with asparagus, shellfish, or goat cheese.

The Laherte brothers, Thierry and Christian, are sixth generation winemakers in the Valle de la Marne of Champagne. Alain Graillot, Crozes-Hermitage Rouge 2021

Every wine region in the world has its benchmark producers. These are the producers that year after year release top tier wines with a consistent voice that is evident in each bottle. These producers are an inspiration to younger producers throughout the world. Alain Graillot is a classic example, presiding over 50 acres of 30+ year-old vines in Crozes-Hermitage, just off the powerful hill of Hermitage in the Northern Rhone. Graillot has always focused on the pursuit of greatness. Quality comes first. He passed away in 2022, though his voice lives on with both of his sons, Antoine and Maxime, who picked up their father's torch back in 2008.

This Syrah comes from 30 year old vines from the village of La Chene Verts in Crozes-Hermitage. The juice undergoes whole cluster fermentation, ages in concrete, then ages in used barrels.

Timothee Delalle, Maceration 2021

Variety: Grolleau Gris

Timothee Delalle is a new producer in the Loire Valley. He trained for years in Geneva, Switzerland as well as under the late Loire winemaker, Jacky Blot of Tailles Aux Loups and Domaine de la Butte. Home is a vineyard just west of the city of Tours and Vouvray in the Loire Valley. He makes just 8000 bottles of wine a year and they quickly sell out! He makes excellent examples of the standard varieties grown in the Loire. One of the most talked about winemakers in France at the moment, we clearly have much to expect still from Timothee Delalle. “My objective is to support winemaking rather than to control it.”

This wine is a maceration of Grolleau Gris, a variety that’s a mutation of the local Grolleau. Instead of orange, the wine takes on a coral hue. White wine with tannin!

This is not only one of the top Domaines in Chassagne, but one of the greatest winemakers in the world. Pierre works with large demi-muids barrels and focuses on the flavors of fruit and place rather than barrel. The wines are mineral-driven with an incredible focus of purity.

This Rosé is incredibly rare, with only 600 cases produced and sells out fast. The fruit is from the Hautes Cotes de Beaune, with vine ages around 55 years and unfined/unfiltered.

From the same Bordeaux house that brought us Château La Grolet. Even though Château Peybonhomme Les Tours began six generations ago in 1895, this generation begins with the union of two humans of different wine-related backgrounds. Jean-Luc Hubert descended from a long line of sailors who navigated the Gironde river utilizing “scow” boats to transport wine. Alternatively, Catherine came from a long line of winemakers, her great grandfather having acquired Peybonhomme in 1890. Both of their ancestors worked extensively with one another making and transporting wine, unbeknownst to them the union that would one day happen. The kids have grown and now assist in making beautiful, natural wines and following in their parents’ footsteps.

The Malbec variety was originally a Bordeaux blending grape, but has often been overshadowed by Cabernet and Merlot. Peybonhomme has embraced this variety using their biodynamic principles. It is clear through the name “Quintessence” that the wine exudes perfection and quality.

Timothee Delalle is a new producer in the Loire Valley. He trained for years in Geneva, Switzerland as well as under the late Loire winemaker, Jacky Blot of Tailles Aux Loups and Domaine de la Butte. Home is a vineyard just west of the city of Tours and Vouvray in the Loire Valley. He makes just 8000 bottles of wine a year and they quickly sell out! He makes excellent examples of the standard varieties grown in the Loire. One of the most talked about winemakers in France at the moment, we clearly have much to expect still from Timothee Delalle. “My objective is to support winemaking rather than to control it.”

Starting out very small with just 2 hectares of vines in 1930, Roger and Andrée Vattan staked an early claim to some of the most special territory in Sancerre. As the names of their bottles go, they're named after the soil types. The O.P refers to grapes that were grown on Oxfordian limestone soils and Portlandian soils. Their son, Michel, jumped on the expansion wagon that occurred in Sancerre in the 1970s, adding 7 hectares to the vineyard total. With no heir in sight, Michel groomed Nathalie and Pascal Joulin to take over the vineyard at his retirement in 2008. Winegrowers in Sancerre weathered a difficult spring frost in 2017, losing about 15-20% of total potential production. The balance of the vintage was blessed with enough sunshine and water to counterbalance the early growing season challenges

Making a name for yourself in the wine world is hard no matter where you are based, but being located in Burgundy makes this nearly impossible without a famed family name to back you. Agnes did not have this. What she does have is hard work and a belief in what she is doing. Agnes, year after year, makes elegant and delicate wines with a real sense of place. The wines drink exactly as they should for the level of designation and village they represent.

This Chardonnay comes from two different sites—young vines planted in 2015 from a plot in Volnay, and forty-year old vines from a plot in the Hautes Côtes de Beaune. The wine ages in primarily stainless steel, with 15% aged in barrel.

Hart & Cru is happy to engage the services of a common carrier on behalf of you/the customer. However, upon purchase, ownership of and title to all alcoholic beverages passes from Hart & Cru to you/the buyer in the State of Ohio. In the case of shipments outside of Ohio, the sole responsibility for complying with local regulations lies with the customer. By placing an order on this site and selecting shipping, you authorize Hart & Cru to act on your behalf to engage a common carrier to deliver your order to you.

All ‘Ground Shipping’ orders placed after 12pm on Wednesday will be shipped on Monday the following week in order to avoid bottles being held in non-temperature controlled facilities over the weekend. Orders placed before noon with 2-Day Air selected will be shipped the same day or on the date requested. We are happy to store your order for you until you are able to receive delivery. The cost of shipping varies depending on which shipping option the buyer selects, as well as destination and number of bottles. The appropriate shipping rates will be calculated at checkout.

Although three generations of Robert Chevillon’s family had been involved in the Burgundy wine industry before the Domaine was established, today the winery bears Robert’s name. His sons, Bertrand and Denis, are the 5th generation. Although Robert formally retired in 2003, he remains an active presence in the winery.

Bourgogne Passetoutgrain is another Burgundy appellation with loose restrictions; it includes the grape variety Gamay blended with Pinot Noir. This is a curveball to what you’d expect from the region, but makes for delicious appealing wine meant to be consumed young. Passetoutgrain means "to throw it all in."
