Pierre Girardin, Vin De France Savagnin 'Le Noyer' 2022
Variety: Savagnin
It’s rare that a Burgundy winemaker has success on just their first vintage, but Pierre Girardin has defied all odds. Even with the first, there was a distinctive voice to the wines not often seen so early in a winemaker’s career. Working in the cellar almost from the time he could walk, he is now the 13th generation of his family making wine. Even though Girardin senior sold the domain in 2011, he kept 4.5 hectares of his best plots to pass on to Pierre. Wasting no time evolving the Girardin name into its 14th generation of viticulture Pierre has began expanding their holdings, not just in Burgundy but in Jura as well.
Wildy impressive. 100% Savagnin from the lieu-dit 'Close du Chateau' in Rotalier. 60 year old vines on a heavy Meursault-like terroir of limestone and clay. Native fermentation and aged in 600L barrels (50% new) before being bottled unfined & unfiltered. Carries that classic PVG reduction over from Burgundy, combining with a mouth coating combination of acid and fruit. Labeled as Vin de France as production is done at the property in Meursault and not in the Jura.
