Pierre Girardin, Batard Montrachet Grand Cru 2022
Variety: Chardonnay
It’s rare that a Burgundy winemaker has success on just their first vintage, but Pierre Girardin has defied all odds. Even with the first, there was a distinctive voice to the wines not often seen so early in a winemaker’s career. Working in the cellar almost from the time he could walk, he is now the 13th generation of his family making wine. Even though Girardin senior sold the domain in 2011, he kept 4.5 hectares of his best plots to pass on to Pierre. Beyond the domain wines, Pierre continues to purchase from growers who share the same views.
From one of the best located parcels of Batard, located at the point where Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet converge. Exposed to the sun from the east and on chalky soil, it lends a remarkable intensity.
