Oltretorrente, Vino Bianco 2025
Add something extra ▼
Variety: Timorasso, Cortese, Favorita, Moscato Bianco and Giallo
Chiara and Michele started their project in Tortona in 2010. Having worked in vineyards all over Italy, they felt a pull to work in vines in the foothills of the Alps. When they started their project with just 1.5 hectares, just 30 growers were in the Colli Tortonesi region; today that number has quadrupled. They, like many in the region, are pushing to bring the native variety Timorosso back to life, which had almost gone into extinction. Among their valiant mission, Oltretorrente takes its name from a neighborhood in Parma where a group of working class citizens rose up against thousands of fascists. Heavily inspired by the event, Chiara and Michele felt like their goal of resuscitating old vineyards was much like a mission impossible. These days, they focus on farming biodynamically with native varieties like Timorosso, Barbera and a slew of other southern Piemont varieties.
This Vino Bianco is a true field blend where the wine is more about the sum of its parts than any specific variety. Using equal parts, Timorasso, Cortese, Favorita, Moscato Bianco and Giallo make up this blend. The fruit is treated as on as it's grown, harvested and vilified together. Aged in steel and aged on the lees for several months, this white needs some local Piemonte antipasti and a plate of cheese.
