The name Graillot in the wine world stands out like very few in the world of Syrah. It started with Alain, who built a reputation by spending a few years working with Jacques Seysses at Domaine Dujac in Morey-St-Denis. Those experiences elevated his palate and connected him to an incredibly diverse community of like-minded winemakers around the world with whom he could consult. Maxime followed in his father’s footsteps, creating an incredible group of winemakers and growers around the world who can exchange ideas and support one another. This has elevated the wines because they reference a bigger picture, they take inspiration from beyond their hills and learn from many others worldwide.
This is made from 100% Syrah hailing from the appellation of Saint Joseph in the northern Rhone. The vineyard is called Saint-Jean de Muzols, a part of the original Saint-Joseph appellation. The vines are 30 years old from soils full of granite. The grapes undergo 30% whole cluster fermentation, (unlike Maxime’s father who includes 100% whole cluster). The wine goes on to age in older Burgundy barrels. This wine is full of energy, spice, and powerful fruitiness.
