Variety: Pinot Noir
Domaine Chandon de Briailles is quickly becoming one of the very finest to be found anywhere in the Côte D’Or; classically styled, terroir-driven Burgundies that age brilliantly. This historic estate of Domaine Chandon de Briailles was established in 1834. In 1988, Claude de Nicolay took over from her mother as winemaker—a mother to daughter legacy, not often seen in winemaking. She crafts traditionally styled wines from one of the Cote d’Or’s best terroirs. Claude’s management has been fully biodynamic since 2005 and organic since 1998. The winemaking incorporates a large percentage of whole cluster fermentation, making quality “vin de garde”—or wines meant to keep. Île de Vergelesses is considered by many to be the Grand Cru of the Premier Crus of Pernand-Vergelesses. In great vintages, this 1er Cru can even rival that of Corton Charlemagne for complexity and finesse.
Francois de Nicolay is the negociant project of Chandon de Briailles domaine. This project allows them to expand their repertoire of wines where they work naturally. This Pinot Noir comes from two different parcels, both 50 years old. The wine ages in wood for 18 months and has no added sulfur to the final wine.
