Domaine Faury began in 1979 with Philippe Faury, who then was selling wine, cherries, and peaches. All the clientele was local. Over time Philippe was able to extend the estate to include eleven hectares, including an international market of clientele. Philippe shares his love for the vines with his son, Lionel, who took over the reigns in 2006, though they still work as a team. Their approach is an artisanal one, starting in the vineyards. The geography of the Rhone valley often presents a struggle with vines; farming can only be completed with terracing. In the cellar, the Faury team do not like new oak, though oak is used nonetheless. They rotate between new and old oak alike, using a variety of sizes. The wines are unfined and lightly filtered, showcasing rustic finesse. The Saint-Joseph Rouge is Syrah from vines ranging from 13-40 years old and aged for 12 months in barrels of varying sizes.
