Variety: Chardonnay

Jean-Francois Coche-Dury is regarded as one of the greatest winemakers on the planet, additionally acquiring the moniker “The King of Meursault” from Jancis Robinson. Procuring one of these is next to impossible as they quite often are snatched up immediately by collectors. The great name of this domain comes from the marriage of Jean Francois Coche to Odile Durt back in 1975, allowing the domain to acquire more land holdings. Home base is in the village of Meursault, though they have other vineyards spread through other communes. What is wild about how great the wines are is that the family doesn’t exactly do anything out of the ordinary. In fact, now retired Jean-Francois and his son, Raphael adhere strictly to tradition when it comes to how vineyards are handled. Importer Kermit Lynch likens the family’s practices to the monks who originally planted vines in Burgundy during the Middle Ages. Most of their vines are 50 to 90 years old, yielding less and less as the years go by.

One of the greatest winemakers coupled with one of the greatest vineyard sites in the world? It’s a fantasy bottle. This site is Chardonnay planted back in 1960, though was originally a gift from the emperor Charlemagne.
