Benoit is a 5th generation winemaker turning to very innovative and anything-but-conventional methods at his family domaine. The conversion to organics and biodynamics aside, his vineyard practice employs horses and aromatherapy, and to walk around the cellar you’ll find barrels painted purple and small Buddhas perched as if to watch over the room. It is easy to tell he takes great care in every step of what he does, in hopes, and execution, of finding balance not just in his winemaking, but also in life.
This is old vine Chardonnay planted way back in 1952. This is a more opulent style of Chardonnay than the other Grand Cru bottlings, which is really saying something because the wines undergo lengthy lees aging, giving this wine a profound texture and weight.
