Tenuta di Valgiano is located in the hills above Lucca in northwestern Tuscany and was founded in 1992 by Moreno Petrini. The estate surrounds an 11th-century villa and chapel and farms roughly 40 acres of vineyards alongside olive groves, woodland, and mixed agriculture. From the beginning, Valgiano positioned itself outside industrial farming, focusing instead on long-term vineyard health in a coastal Tuscan climate shaped by airflow and moderate temperatures.

Viticulture follows a practical biodynamic approach centered on hand work, composting, cover crops, and biodiversity rather than certification. Sangiovese forms the backbone of the estate, supported by Merlot and Syrah, varieties with historical precedent in the Lucca area dating back to the nineteenth century. Vineyard decisions are made parcel by parcel, with low yields and harvest timing based on observation rather than formula.

Colline Lucchesi Rosso is sourced from the estate’s older vineyards, including vines planted in the 1950s. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts, followed by aging in a combination of oak and cement. Annual production is limited to approximately 8,000 bottles. Over the past two decades, Valgiano has been repeatedly cited by Italian wine writers as one of the estates that helped define modern Colline Lucchesi, and the wine has received Tre Bicchieri recognition from Gambero Rosso multiple times.

Hart & Cru is happy to engage the services of a common carrier on behalf of you/the customer. However, upon purchase, ownership of and title to all alcoholic beverages passes from Hart & Cru to you/the buyer in the State of Ohio. In the case of shipments outside of Ohio, the sole responsibility for complying with local regulations lies with the customer. By placing an order on this site and selecting shipping, you authorize Hart & Cru to act on your behalf to engage a common carrier to deliver your order to you.

All ‘Ground Shipping’ orders placed after 12pm on Wednesday will be shipped on Monday the following week in order to avoid bottles being held in non-temperature controlled facilities over the weekend. Orders placed before noon with 2-Day Air selected will be shipped the same day or on the date requested. We are happy to store your order for you until you are able to receive delivery. Please include note specifying desired ship date or reach out to us at thecru@hartandcru.com for any other requests.

The cost of shipping varies depending on which shipping option the buyer selects, as well as destination and number of bottles. The appropriate shipping rates will be calculated at checkout.

All orders will be sent with a 21+ signature as is legally required. The carrier delivering your order will be unable to leave the package on your front door, back porch, etc. without sign-off. Please ensure someone is home to receive. In the event that a shipment cannot be delivered due to an incorrect address provided by the purchaser, or after three delivery attempts by the carrier, Hart & Cru reserves the right to charge the purchaser the applicable carrier fee for rerouting to an alternative address or re-shipping to the same address.
