Gut Oggau is a relatively new project started in just 2007, though the winery itself has existed since the 17th century in Burgenland, Austria. It was a merging of the talents of Stephanie whose family owned a local Michelin star restaurant and Eduard’s history of making wine with his father in Styria. While it’s a shame the winery was abandoned for 20 years, farming started fresh with no traces of chemicals in the vineyards further allowing the couple to farm biodynamically. As they worked with all manner of vines young to old, the couple noticed that each wine and vineyard site had a personality, and so they’ve allowed each wine label to display corresponding family members.

While very attractive on the outside, the beauty of Atanasius lies on the inside as he is quite mysterious; so is this Burgenland red blend. It ages in variously sized barrels and is bottled with no added sulfur.
