Located just outside of the town of Barbaresco, the winery was established by Giovanni Giordano in the 1930s -  a time of crisis in the Italian wine world. In the beginning Giovanni sold all of his grapes to neighboring negotiants. Upon taking over the management of the estate, his son Luigi made the bold decision to vinify his own fruit and his first label was released in 1958. This was a rather remarkable risk as Barbaresco's designation and its wine's international acclaim were still decades away.  Today’s winery remains a family endeavor and is driven by Luigi himself, his daughter Laura, and his grandson Matteo.

Freisa, which has in recent years seen a reassurance (much thanks to the small independent farmers championing it) displays many of the same qualities that make Nebbiolo so sought after. Floral and aromatic, this wine's soft tannins give way to vivacious acidity. After being carefully destemmed, the grapes undergo 10-15 days of skin contact with regular pumpovers to ensure good acidity and color extraction. The wine then ages one year in stainless-steel tanks allowing all of fruit and terroir to show.

We do our best to have all orders placed BEFORE NOON delivered SAME DAY. All orders placed after noon, will be delivered the next day. Cincinnati orders over $150 in certain areas will receive FREE DELIVERY. Delivery distances defined by zip codes. See delivery zones below.

WINE SHIPPING VIA COMMON CARRIER

Hart & Cru is happy to engage the services of a common carrier on behalf of you/the customer. However, upon purchase, ownership of and title to all alcoholic beverages passes from Hart & Cru to you/the buyer in the State of Ohio. In the case of shipments outside of Ohio, the sole responsibility for complying with local regulations lies with the customer. By placing an order on this site and selecting shipping, you authorize Hart & Cru to act on your behalf to engage a common carrier to deliver your order to you. 


All ‘Ground Shipping’ orders placed after 12pm on Wednesday will be shipped on Monday the following week in order to avoid bottles being held in non-temperature controlled facilities over the weekend. Orders placed before noon with 2-Day Air selected will be shipped the same day or on the date requested. We are happy to store your order for you until you are able to receive delivery. Please include note specifying desired ship date or reach out to us at thecru@hartandcru.com for any  other requests. 


The cost of shipping varies depending on which shipping option the buyer selects, as well as destination and number of bottles. The appropriate shipping rates will be calculated at checkout. 

All orders will be sent with a 21+ signature as is legally required.  The carrier delivering your order will be unable to leave the package on your front door, back porch, etc. without sign-off. Please ensure someone is home to receive. In the event that a shipment cannot be delivered due to an incorrect address provided by the purchaser, or after three delivery attempts by the carrier, Hart & Cru reserves the right to charge the purchaser the applicable carrier fee for rerouting to an alternative address or re-shipping to the same address.
