As a wine lover, I have many ever changing fascinations when it comes to grape varieties. However, the glorious Sangiovese grape is one I will always have a soft spot for. There are truly not many wines in the world that touch the soul the way that this noble Italian wine does. As with all things in life, there are certain people who take things to the next level. Meet producer Pian Dell’Orino, from the famed region of Montalcino. The families vineyard sites fall within some of the most prized parcel in the appellation. Notable in their refusal to cut corners, their Rosso di Montalcino is aged longer than most producers top tier Brunello and yet the wine presents a freshness that is only obtained by true talent and dedication to winemaking. This producer is exceptional not only in terms of personal achievement but as a force who has helped to guide the region into greatness and garnered it international recognition. Every action taken in both the vineyard and in the winery is done so at the highest level possible with a focus on sustainability.
