Isole e Olena, Vin Santo del Chianti Classico 2008Regular price $60.00 Save $-60.00
Variety: Malvasia and Trebbiano
bottle size: 375 ml
Fourth-generation winemaker Paolo De Marchi studied Agriculture at the University of Turin and worked harvests in California and France before returning to the family estate in 1976. He found much need for improvement and modernization in the Chianti Classico region. One of the first projects involved planting single vineyards of international varieties, such as Chardonnay and Syrah. With these steps, Paolo discovered a way to balance tradition with innovation. In 1980, he created his flagship wine, Cepparello, made from 100% Sangiovese. This wine has been classified as a “Super Tuscan”, as it violates the traditional Chianti Classico regulations of including a white variety in the blend. As a result of Paolo’s technique, this wine has set the standard for the pure Sangiovese movement.
This wine has a special method to make it. The freshly harvested Malvasia and Trebbiano grapes are left on straw mats to raisin or hung or dried by hanging on racks indoors. The style ranges from dry to sweet; this style is done sweet and pairs perfectly with biscotti.
Ampeleia, Costa Bianco 2019Regular price $30.00 Save $-30.00
Ampeleia was born only just in 2002 from the collaboration and friendship between some incredibly noteworthy icons—Elisabetta Foradori, Thomas Widmann, and Giovanni Podini. They created a place where they could not only develop an agricultural project but also fulfill a common dream.
The estate comprises different plots of land, each located far apart and on different altitude levels—their mission is to create variables in altitude, soil type and microclimatic conditions. Variety is the spice of life, at least Ampeleia, representing the project’s constant quality and willingness to discover. The grape varieties that have been planted are common to Mediterranean vineyards reflecting the tradition of growing multiple varieties in the same vineyard and harvesting them together at the same time. Today, the estate extends over three altitude levels and covers 35 hectares of vineyard.
Cirelli, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2019Regular price $18.00 Save $-18.00
There is something to be said for believing whole-heartedly in something and building your entire life around that belief. Francesco Cirelli embodies that and lives off the land. He believes in a sustainable ecosystem and in leaving a place better than he found it. Agricola Cirelli is a fully functional organic farm using some modern techniques (think stainless steel) while simultaneously producing throw back wines in old clay amphora vessels and cement casks. These honest wines are indicative of the Mediterranean style, made in the Abruzzo region, seven miles from the Adriatic Sea.
