Poggio di Sotto, Brunello di Montalcino 2013
Regular price $275.00 Save $-275.00Variety: Sangiovese
Producing Brunellos of the highest quality, so elegant and subtle they’re often described as ‘Burgundian’, Poggio di Sotto commands a great amount of respect in a category of fierce competition. Vineyards at three different altitudes grow exclusively Sangiovese Grosso, all of which qualifies for the Brunello appellation and the plots are cooled by near-constant breezes that, among other things, eliminate any necessity to use pesticides. The twenty to twenty-five-year-old vines are hand-harvested which, along with the use of indigenous yeasts, reflects a philosophy toward production at Poggio di Sotto which focuses on sustainable farming, and to let the terroir dictate the style of the wine as much as possible. This choice is further exemplified by aging the wines in Slavonian oak barrels and bottling unfiltered. A powerful Brunello from a top-grade producer that nevertheless showcases finesse over strength.
This Brunello has a lengthy vinification journey before its release, which only extends its life in the cellar. The Sangiovese ages in small oak barrels for 30-35 days. Next it will age in even smaller Slavonian oak barrels for 58 months, and finally another eight months in bottle before release. This bottle can cellar easily for years to come.

Conca d'Oro, Rose Prosecco Treviso NV
Regular price $15.00 Save $-15.00Variety: Glera and Pinot Nero
Fattoria Conca d’Oro loosely means “golden basin farm.” The winery has been around for generations with their own vineyards in the heart of the Strada del Prosecco, namely in the Valdobbiadene production zone, known as having the absolute best hillsides in the region for Prosecco winemaking. The winery is involved in each moment of the process beginning with tending to their vines, harvest, and production of these Prosecco wines.
The region of Veneto now allows for the production of "Prosecco Rosé" as the name of the wine and the winemaking appellation. The wine is done in the charmat method, different from Champagne, as it is done with the tank method. Glera, the traditional grape used for Prosecco production is blended with an additional 20% of the red variety Pinot Nero.

G.D. Vajra, Dolcetto d'Alba Coste & Fassati 2018
Regular price $30.00 Save $-30.00Variety: Dolcetto
The Vajra story is something quite magical. The family is not from noble descendants but is a family of hard-working, passionate, caring people. Their focus is on building something for their children, caring about the community, and cementing the stories of the regions’ past.
The G.D. Vajra winery was created in 1972 by Aldo and Milena Vaira, initially from vineyards planted by Aldo’s father in 1947. The winery was named for Aldo’s father, Giuseppe Domenico Vaira, because at the time Aldo was not old enough to establish the winery in his own name. The spelling of the family name (Vaira) is different from the label (Vajra) for this reason: in 1918 the “j” was eliminated from most Italian words, so the Vaira family changed their spelling. However, the design of the wine label looked like a “j” so they kept the original spelling for the winery. Today the family has 40 hectares under vine in Barolo and other surrounding appellations. Their prized holdings in Bricco delle Viole were planted in 1949 by Aldo’s grandfather. Milena and Aldo’s three children – Giuseppe, Francesca, and Isidoro – are all involved in the family winery operation situated in the village of Vergne.
Coste di Vergen (planted in 1979) & Fossati (planted in 1985) are the names of the two vineyard sites where this Dolcetto hails. This wine is a firm example how the Vajra family continues their tradition of nurturing the best Dolcetto vineyards planted by Aldo Vajra. This is an elegant, yet sturdy wine that can age. Following the “no-recipe” recipe, the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks for seven months.

La Collina, Lunaris Secco 2018
Regular price $19.00 Save $-19.00Variety: Malvasia
The Cooperative, La Collina, resides in Reggio Emilia, the heart of the Emilia Romagna. This region is home to Lambrusco, the tri colored Italian flag, and Parmigiano Reggiano! The story is unexpected; back in 1975, twelve young men joined minds and hearts to begin a cooperative of both agricultural ambitions and humanitarian efforts. The project was aimed to draw in those with drug problems, rehabilitate them through the rewards of biodynamic farming, and reap the benefits of incredible wine, cheese, and other produce. The winery is, in essence, a result of community collaboration far ahead of its time in the hills of Emilia Romagna.
Founder of La Collina, Enea, managed to make a dry wine that’s biodynamically farmed, more aromatic than the nearby Prosecco wine, and still delivers quality way above its price point. This is a dry, aka “Secco” sparkling Malvasia. Enea uses frozen grape must to help kickstart the fermentation naturally, and boost the aromatics of the resulting wine. Drink by itself or with charcuterie!

La Collina, Lambrusco Dell'Emilia Quaresimo
Regular price $19.00 Save $-19.00Variety: Lambrusco Salamino, Maestri, Grasparossa, and Malbo Gentile
This is a traditional pure expression of Lambrusco without the cloying sweetness. Enea uses frozen grape must to help kickstart the fermentation naturally, and boost the aromatics of the resulting wine. While this Lambrusco is definitely tart and fruity, the acidity and bubbles will stand up to charcuterie and pizza effortlessly.

Adami, Garbel Prosecco Treviso Brut NV
Regular price $17.00 Save $-17.00Variety: Glera
Prosecco doesn’t often get the glory of a deserving story, though the Adami family would be remiss if theirs wasn’t shared. In the steep hillsides of the Valdobbiadene in Treviso, farmers have been using Glera for dry white wines since the Middle Ages, and often exporting them. This area is ideal with its verdant Dolomite slopes and excellent sun exposure. The Adami family is now onto their third generation, though Abel Adami of the first generation had the intriguing idea to separate his vineyard from the others. It was the first vineyard selection from Valdobbiadene. Today, the family exercises their commitment to quality while exporting and increasing modernization to the winery.
This Prosecco from Treviso is inspired by its own name, “Garbèl,” which is just a local dialect for the sensation when one experiences something satisfyingly fresh and light. This Prosecco is just that, a more approachable, and less serious expression of Prosecco. To indicate the vines are sourced from the plains versus hillsides, the label is situated on the bottle horizontally. (Their other labels have a vertical orientation.)

Giuseppe Mascarello, Barolo Monprivato 2014
Regular price $200.00 Save $-200.00Variety: Nebbiolo
The last of the great Barolo generation is Mauro Mascarello who took over for his father, Guiseppe. He has been making incredible wine since the late 1960s. Not only does Mauro continue the family’s tradition of excellence, he also brought about incredible changes. Monprivato, the family’s vineyard from which they had been sourcing and blending with fruit from other Barolo sites, changed after 1970. Mauro opted to bottle the wine as a single vineyard site. He realized the potential for Monprivato as a wine that could shine on its own with perfume and richness. It has been one of the most consistently magical wines coming out of the Langhe region.
Monprivato is Mascarello's flagship wine from the famed vineyard of the same name in Castiglione Falletto. The grapes are harvested in mid-October, as is standard for the region. The wine undergoes a lengthy maceration and spends about thirty months in Slavonian oak barrels. This is a dream bottle for cellaring, and can easily mature for another 15-25 years before enjoying.

Fratelli Alessandria, Dolcetto d'Alba 2019
Regular price $20.00 Save $-20.00Variety: Dolcetto
The Alessandria family – owner Gian Battista, his wife Flavia, brother Alessandro, and son Vittore – lovingly produce a robust range of Piedmont specialty wines from start to finish. The farmer of the group, Gian’s philosophy is “the best wine comes from a great vineyard.” Located in the town of Verduno, in the commune of Barolo, the property has operated as a winery since the early 19th century. The wines were winning prizes as early as 1843. The original Alessandria brothers (fratelli) purchased the property in 1870.
This easy-drinking Dolcetto comes from four different sites in the commune of Verduno, the northernmost part of Barolo. With an early harvest for the early ripening Dolcetto, the wine undergoes a short maceration time and just 5-7 months in stainless steel or cement, and 1-2 months in bottle before it is ready to enjoy. Drink this right away and with all sorts of food.

Uccelliera, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2015
Regular price $158.00 Save $-158.00Variety: Sangiovese
Andrea Cortonesi is the identity behind the Uccelliera wines. The story behind the estate deserves further attention. It begins with the Uccelliara wines as part of the Ciacci Piccolomoni estate, which is also located in Montalcino. After perfecting his technique as the cellar master at Ciacci, Andrea made the natural move to purchase the Uccelliara property in order to forge his own path. His first vintage was a small, but mighty 500 bottles in 1991. Then he grew. His vines are tucked away in the hills of Castelnuovo dell’Abate in Montalcino. Andrea does not pull any shortcuts; all vineyard work is done by hand only and the wines are among the cult classics of Tuscany.
Just 800 cases of the Uccelliera Riserva Brunello are produced each year. The vines were first planted in 1975, making for old vines by the standards of Montalcino. This wine’s journey after harvest is a lengthy one, beginning with a 20-25 day maceration. The wine ages in French and Slavonian oak for 36-42 months before resting another 18 months in bottle prior to release. This Riserva is one meant for the cellar

Grosjean Freres, Valle d'Aosta Pinot Noir 2019
Regular price $30.00 Save $-30.00Variety: Pinot Noir
In the cool northern Italian region of the Valle d’Aosta, which lies nestled in the crevices of the Italian Alps dwells the family-owned vineyards of Grosjean Freres. The family would raise cattle, and during the summer grow grapes and chestnuts at the lower parts of the slopes. Though the history of this winemaking family long had roots in this region, a wider audience for the wines did not begin until Dauphin Grosjean was encouraged to show his wines at a local wine expo. Winemaking all of a sudden became a family affair, including Dauphin’s five sons. Vineyards were purchased and production increased.
This wine is 100% Pinot Noir, though the two lineages of the wine are from different countries, 70% of the vines are French and the rest are Swiss. The vineyards come from a high altitude slope of over 600 meters in elevation. The Pinot Noir ages partly in oak and partly in stainless steel.

L'Archetipo, Salento Verdeca Sette Lune 2017
Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.00Variety: Verdeca (orange wine)
Since the 80’s Francesco Valentino began to convert his land to organic farming, but he came to find he wanted more from the vitality of his vineyards. In 2000 he implemented biodynamic farming. These practices are thanks to his studies on Rudolf Steiner, an Austrian scientist/thinker who touched on endless fields of human endeavor, including biodynamic farming. After a few years of biodynamics, he realized there was still something further to be done. Francesco studied the works of Masanobu Fukuoka, a farmer/philosopher known as the father of modern day natural farming. At long last, he implemented sustainable agriculture, in which all synergies in his vineyard ecosystem were linked: the Synergistic Agriculture, a balanced ecosystem.
This is made from the white grape variety, Verdeca, that’s grown almost exclusively in Puglia. The Verdeca is macerated for seven moons, or sette lune, on the skins making for a robust orange wine. The wine ages for two more years on its lees, requiring more substantial food like white meat or fish.

L'Archetipo, Puglia Litrotto Rosso 2017 - 1 Liter
Regular price $19.00 Save $-19.00Variety: Montepulciano, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Primitivo, and Susumaniello
At long last he implemented sustainable agriculture, in which all synergies in his vineyard ecosystem were linked: the Synergistic Agriculture, a balanced ecosystem.
This a blend of the red varieties found in Puglia made into a liter bottle. The biodynamic farming practices instilled by Rudolf Steiner are implemented. The wine ages in stainless steel on its lees for 36 months for a wine of freshness and minerality.

Tenuta Di Carleone, Pianvecchio N.V.
Regular price $26.00 Save $-26.00Variety: Vermentino, Malvasia, Trebbiano, Riesling, and Gewürztraminer
Tenuta Carleone di Castiglioni was first mentioned in the year 1078 when monks first founded it in Chianti, named for the village of Castiglioni meaning “small castle.” The property is a romantic vision of wooded hills, rivers, and fertile plains. Nestled in between the hills are the Sangiovese vines and olive trees. Though the property was farmed for hundreds of years, it did not become the winery of Tenuta di Carleone until 2012. Karl Egger and Sean O’Callaghan both operate the winery with a clear vision, classic, with Sean’s twist.
This blend of white varieties, some classic of the region and others not so classic, come from various vineyards in Radda, Chianti. The vines for this bottling are planted next to the traditional Tuscan farmhouse called “pian vecchio” from which this bottle got its name. It is aged just in stainless steel.

Regular price $15.00 Save $-15.00Variety: Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon
Carmignano is an Italian wine region located in the Tuscany region and centered on the city of Carmignano, about 10 miles northwest of Florence. In the 18th century, the producers of the Carmignano region developed a tradition of blending Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon, long before the practice became popularized by the "Super Tuscan" of the late 20th century. The Pierazzuoli Family has had the Farnete estate since 1990. The property is located in the town of Carmignano near the town of Firenze. The family operates another property in Carmignano, as well as overseeing an osteria, farmhouse, and their own olive oil production. Their wines continue to win multiple Gambero Rosso ratings.
This is a blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Carmignano is the only DOCG in Italy that can include the French variety Cabernet Sauvignon, though other IGT and DOC areas may also include the variety. The wine spends eight months in large barrels and eight months in bottle to follow before its release. makes for a fresh, fruity wine that is spectacular with Tuscan cuisine like salumi & finocchiona.

Le Piane, Maggiorina Boca Vino Rosso 2019
Regular price $23.00 Save $-23.00Variety: Nebbiolo, Croatina, and Vespolina
The vineyards of Le Piane hail from Boca, the highest elevation area of Piedmonte. After a lengthy period of beautiful vineyards that had been abandoned after a period of heavy industrialization in the urban areas, they were finally rescued. Friends Christoph and Alexander fell in love with the property of Le Piane which included vines, barrels still filled with wine, and a dilapidated building. The last moving piece was convincing Antonio Cerri, an older winemaker, who also happened to be one of the last standing in the Boca area. It took them ten years, but Christoph and Alexander were able to convince Antonio that they would continue to honor the ancient winemaking traditions of the whimsical mountains of Piedmont. Alexander was sadly killed in 1998, but Christoph and his team carry on the dream today.

This Bianco is made from the mysterious Erbaluce that’s native to Piedmonte. It is pronounced “urb-bah-lou-chay.” Due to appellation laws, the wine does not get to tout its variety on the label, but simply “Bianco.” It’s light-bodied and acid-driven. The wine has a short ageing process that takes place between amphora, cement, and acacia barrels.

G.D. Vajra, Dolcetto d'Alba 2019
Regular price $20.00 Save $-20.00Variety: Dolcetto
Historically, Dolcetto was given some of the best pieces of land, just above the Nebbiolo vineyards, where it is usually harvested first. The Vajra family continue to pay homage to the heritage of Piedmont by growing this variety. It is juicy and floral and ready for most occasions that involve food. Its ageing in stainless steel drives home its freshness.

Picollo Ernesto, Le Rive Gavi 2020
Regular price $12.00 Save $-12.00Variety: Cortese
Gavi is the name of a small village in the Piedmont region. Often overshadowed by the Nebbiolo grape, Gavi really holds its own as the white wine favorite in the region. Coming from a village perched in the rolling hills of the Italian Alps, the climate here is uniquely Alpine like the north, but also Mediterranean where it soaks up sunshine and maritime breezes from the Ligurian Sea. When the northerly Piedmont folk go to Cinque Terre coast, they are sure to pick up some of this "beach wine" on their way to soak up the sun.
Outside of the village of Gavi, the Ernesto family farms 17 acres of exclusively Cortese, the variety used to make Gavi. They are now a third generation winery having been farming there since 1945. The Cortese grapes are all hand-harvested without usage of herbicides. All fermentation and ageing is done in stainless steel to keep the wines fresh and lively. It's a simple, clever wine that makes sense for many situations.

Torre Raone, Colline Pescaresi Pecorino 2019
Regular price $14.00 Save $-14.00Variety: Pecorino
Founded over a game of cards in a local cafe in Abruzzo, Torre Roane begin with two lifelong friends finding an ancient farm located near the entrance of the Gran Sasso National Park. The lesser-known region of Abruzzo is on the Adriatic Sea and is a protected basin for agriculture because of the Apennine mountains which run North to South through central Italy. One of the two main varietals grown in Abruzzo, Pecorino is synonymous with the famous sheep's milk cheese.
Hints of lemongrass and citrus make this the perfect wine for a weeknight cheese board or a comforting asparagus risotto.

Mocali, Rosso Toscana Fossetti 2017
Regular price $14.00 Save $-14.00Variety: Sangiovese and Canaiolo
Before the town of Montalcino achieved any international recognition, a small group of winemakers banded together to form a consortium, eventually forming an international symbol representing the quality of Brunello di Montalcino. The founder of Mocali, Dino Ciacci, was one of those winemakers, who believed in the development of Brunello long before the rest of the world did. Before grapes were successful, Dino and others relied on the crops of olives for oil production and sheep to make cheese. Grains were also common, though it wasn’t long before these were replaced with Sangiovese vines. Dino’s grandson, Tiziano and wife Alessandria, took a step in a different direction by bottling their own wine versus selling their grapes for production. Thank you to these strong winemakers, Mocali has made huge strides in putting Brunello on the map, as a food friendly and exceptionally age worthy wine.
This is a Toscana IGT wine, even though the Sangiovese all comes from vineyard sites grown within Montalcino, though the vines are not classified as “Montalcino.” The wine is 80% Sangiovese with Canaiolo making up the rest of the blend. The wine sees a shorter aging period of ten months in stainless steel and five months in bottle before release. Fossetti means “dimples” likely referring to the hillsides of Montalcino.

Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona, Toscana Rosso 2017
Regular price $15.00 Save $-15.00Variety: Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah
For many years the wines of the famed region of Montalcino have been recognized as the top wines of Italy. This is still a very true statement today. The central town is perched on the top of the hill and the vineyards are patched together on the hillsides below. The Ciacci family’s history dates back to the 17th century, and their land holdings are some of the most historic in Tuscany. The legendary winemaking estate is located on the south side of the hill around the smaller village of Castelnuovo facing the Orcia Valley. Originally the estate was owned by the church and Francesco Ciacci purchased the property in 1877.
This is an entry-level Super Tuscan from Ciacci Piccolomini. True to the style, this Rosso is made primarily with Sangiovese, and blended with the international varieties of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. This wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged in cement vats. It is meant to be drunk immediately and often.
