Anthill Farms, Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2020
Regular price $38.00 Save $-38.00Variety: Pinot Noir
Anthill Farms is a group of three friends who went against all the odds to start a winery in California. They didn’t have money saved nor were they born into the business. They were cellar rats, the guys moving hoses and cleaning floors, for some pretty significant wineries, Williams Selyem being the most influential. However, while still quite young, the three decided to pull together a tiny amount of cash and started making wine at a crushpad facility. Before long the wines had a cult following and we’ve been drinking them ever since. Many of Anthill’s wines only make it to a mailing list or restaurants; we are lucky to include their small production wines.
This wine sources Pinot Noir from the two coolest coastal parts of the appellation of Sonoma Coast in Sonoma County—the low coast and the high coast. Due to its consistent cool breezes from the coastal microclimate, picking is delayed until October, giving grapes a long growing season and time to develop complexity.

Matthiasson, Rose 2021
Regular price $34.00 Save $-34.00Variety: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Counoise
Steve Matthiasson is a California pioneer. Daring to break Napa tradition, Steve and his wife Jill have planted rare, ancient Italian grapes though recognize that Napa loves all the well-known international grapes. A Matthiasson tasting experience, laid out on the picnic table that separates their home from the winemaking operation (with their dog and at least one son stopping by!) shows instantly how the couple reveres the place they farm together. This is real California wine and Matthiasson’s wines are where California wine is headed. Steve Matthiasson is a six-time nominee for a James Beard award, a serious achievement in the wine industry. He has also been named “Winemaker of the Year” by both Food & Wine Magazine and The San Francisco Chronicle. Steve and Jill are long time friends and mentors to Hart & Cru.
This Rhone-inspired blend comes from two organic vineyards in Dunnigan Hills and Napa Valley. The fruit is grown exclusively for this rose and harvested early just as it would for a sparkling wine to retain all its glorious acidity. Everything about this wine is intentionally done in a fresh style which lends itself perfectly to all manner of spring vegetables and summer porch sipping.

No Fine Print, Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.00Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Sirah
Self-described disruptors, the founders of No Fine Print manage bands for a living. And we don’t mean the kind of band you were in when you were a kid and made your mom crazy banging drums and twanging bass in your garage. Co-founder Pat Corcoran helped put Chance The Rapper on the map. Music industry pal and co-founder Tim Smith has managed multiple platinum artists for nearly two decades including Skrillex and BloodPop. Keen to leverage their creative branding expertise from music into wine, they teamed up with sommelier Ryan Arnold—Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants—to apply Ryan’s diverse wine industry background into a clever new brand. The lack of fine print denotes just that—less time reading the label and more time enjoying honest juice.
This is a no-frills Cabernet Sauvignon meant for immediate enjoyment. The alcohol is not high, nor is the intimidation. The Cabernet ages for one year in neutral French oak while the other varieties age in steel for a fresh New California style of wine.

Presqu'ile Winery, Chardonnay 2020
Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.00Variety: Chardonnay
According to Matt Murphy, co-founder, and president of Presqui’le winery, the greatest wineries are multigenerational family endeavors. In fact, the family is very close and loves doing things together, including his sister Anna, the enologist. Anna and Matt both grew up around the family’s farm in Louisiana, which was the forerunner for their interest in winemaking. Dieter Cronje, winemaker for Presqu’ile, has quite the prestigious resumé. While on a mission to gain a more global perspective, he did an exchange program with the University of Bordeaux and traveled extensively through Burgundy and Champagne to gain more understanding of Pinot Noir. After working with Matt Murphy at the Ambullneo winery and sharing many late-night bottles of Burgundy, they realized they worked well together. Matt then decided that Dieter would be a great fit as winemaker for Presqu’ile.

Lieu Dit, Sauvignon Blanc 2018
Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.00Variety: Sauvignon Blanc
This wine is a collaboration of Eric Railsback and Justin Willet, both big names in the international wine scene and longtime friends unified by wine. Eric and Justin both had incredible resumes and ultimately joined forces after their Santa Barbara wine group spurred this decision. Lieu Dit, as a word, translates to "a small geographical area bearing a traditional name. The name usually refers to some characteristic of the place, its former use, a past event, etc." This concept is the whole idea of these wines from Santa Barbara, though with a focus on varieties grown in the Loire Valley.

Ashes & Diamonds, Blanc #3 2017
Regular price $50.00 Save $-50.00Variety: Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc
At first glance, “Ashes and Diamonds” only brushes the surface of what the winery truly represents. The story—or journey rather—begins in the autumn of 2013 when Kashy Khaledi (son of winemaker Darioush Khaledi) was a creative media executive at Capitol Records, the “ideal job.” In the midst of a lengthy creative stump, Khaledi would often turn to old films for inspiration. He found one that shifted the course of his life—the 50s Polish film Ashes and Diamonds. A dream started to take shape; Khaledi threw himself into researching the viticulture and enology that shaped California’s wine culture. His quest for joint ventures began; he teamed up with Steve Matthiasson and Diana Snowden, farming vineyards in Napa Valley in the pursuit of balanced wine.
Farmed by Steve Matthiasson, the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon come from three vineyards from Napa’s Oak Knoll and Yountville districts. Ageing is completed all in barrel, 30% of which is done in new French barrels. This is opulent and textured, a white wine worthy of age.

Hirsch Vineyards, Pinot Noir San Andreas Fault 2019
Regular price $75.00 Save $-75.00Variety: Pinot Noir
Stand above the fog line and glimpse the power of the Pacific at 1500 ft. elevation and you’ll begin to understand what attracted David Hirsch to his extreme site back in 1980. Hirsch was not born into the wine world. Rather he was a lover of pinot noir, more specifically Burgundy, to which I can very much relate. Buying and selling textiles between the US and France, he reached a turning point. The lure of a quiet farm life with his family brought him to Fort-Ross Seaview, on the Sonoma coast, just three hours from San Francisco. The property sits on a ridge line, cleared of redwoods and fir trees with a climate that is incredibly coastal. Straddling the San Andreas Fault, the soils are intensely complex. Most world class vineyard sites are known for only having a few soils. Hirsch, on the other hand, has 44 different soil types. It should come as no surprise that this is one of the most expressive and important vineyards in the US.
The San Andreas Fault Estate Pinot Noir is the flagship wine from Hirsch, and the wine that represents the summation of the complex vineyard. David Hirsch says if you drink only one of his wines this should be it. It's 100% estate and 100% Hirsch.

Salem Wine Company, Chardonnay 2020
Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.00Variety: Chardonnay
Evening Land's Seven Springs Vineyard is one of the oldest and most sought-after sites in the Willamette Valley. Al MacDonald planted the vines in 1984 next to the Douglas fir trees that surround the northern section of the property. The vineyard has always been dry-farmed and is positioned to capture the cold air from the Pacific that enters the valley through the Van Duzer Corridor, just to the north of the appellation. Rajat Parr and Sashi Moorman are two of the top names in the wine world today, and recently they obtained 100% control of the site. With their vigilant oversight and visionary stance on winemaking, the quality of these wines continues to elevate.
Salem Wine Co. is a secondary project from Evening Land sourcing from three vineyard sites across Eola-Amity including Seven Springs Vineyard. The wines are meant to be enjoyed young and sold affordably.
The Chardonnay for this bottling is sourced mostly from the western facing block 9 at Seven Springs. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation to give it the most mouthfeel. It ages twelve months in neutral oak and six months in tank before bottling.

Railsback Freres, Vermentinu Soeur Cuvee Speciale 2021
Regular price $30.00 Save $-30.00Variety: Vermentinu
The story of two brothers: even while still in high school, Eric was already collecting bottles of prized top dollar Burgundy and Chablis, hiding them under his bed when he started college. Lyle’s quest for knowledge landed him in Austria where he met one of his most important friends in the industry, sommelier Rajat Parr. After a decade of restaurant work, Eric returned to Santa Barbara to start his own project, Lieu Dit, inspired by the Loire. Older brother Lyle had also worn many hats in the industry, ultimately landing a job for one of the most esteemed importers Kermit Lynch, leading regional sales. After leading separate lives for some time, the brothers both felt a calling to merge their two paths, which is how Railsback Frères came to be born.
The story of the two Railsback brothers continues with this special bottle of Vermentinu. As with their other bottles, this is inspired by their travels where they discovered unique varieties. Travels to Corsica led to a love for the Mediterranean variety of Vermentinu. This is only their second release of this bottle, sourced from just two sites. It’s a beautifully exuberant variety with floral and grapefruit notes, with a distinctive bitter almond note. It is a completely perfect food for all manner of Mediterranean food, namely seafood and white fish dishes.

Stolpman Vineyards, Syrah So Fresh Crunchy Roastie Ballard Canyon 2021
Regular price $26.00 Save $-26.00Variety: Syrah and Viognier
Founded over 20 years ago by Tom Stolpman when he discovered hidden in the hills of California’s Central Coast a rare limestone outcropping unobstructed from the Pacific Ocean wind which became part of the now famous Ballard Canyon AVA. The winery is currently run by son Pete Stolpman and his wife Jessica. Known for employing their own crew "La Quadrilla", the vineyards are maintained only by hand with care and dedication.
The "So Fresh" series from Stolpman Vineyards ferments the grapes whole and un-crushed, for a delicately high-toned profile- also known as carbonic maceration. The grapes are harvested early for lighter mouthfeel and higher acidity. Then the wines go to bottle early to capture purity and freshness without added sulfur. 2019 is the debut vintage of "Crunchy Roastie" paying homage to the technique of co-fermenting Syrah in Cote Rôtie with a small amount of Viognier to increase the floral aromatics of the Syrah.

Stolpman Vineyards, Trousseau Pet-Nat 'Combe' Ballard Canyon 2021
Regular price $44.00 Save $-44.00Variety: Trousseau
When winemakers Pete Stolpman and Rajat Parr decided to collaborate on this particular project, wondrous things inevitably would happen. The project is named “Combe'' for the French word referring to a sheltered valley in a vineyard. Pete and his parents had been growing native French varietals in Ballard Canyon for years, though once Raj discovered the pale limestone soils, the Jura native variety Trousseau made its home here. They bottled a Pet-nat of Trousseau—the only Trousseau Pet-Nat in the world! As the oldest method of sparkling winemaking, this style is considerably unique. This wine was harvested, disgorged, and bottled early all to retain freshness and life with the bubbles created naturally in the bottle.
Several years back, Pete Stolpman was convinced that Ballard Canyon would be the perfect place to experiment. He began growing the Trousseau variety, native to the cooler eastern regions of France. With a bit of winemaking consultation from friend Raj Parr, the ‘Combe’ project was born. This variety made both a natural sparkling pet-nat and a still red. The fermentation is a natural one and takes place all within the bottle.

Donkey & Goat, The Gadabout 2019
Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.00Variety: Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Marsanne, Vermentino, Chardonnay
In short, Jared and Tracey Brandt of Donkey and Goat Winery are pioneers of the natural winemaking movement in California. After spending time in France back in 2002 with noteworthy winemaker Eric Texier, they returned home to Cali, inspired and ready to apply their inspirations in winemaking and marketing. Using a completely natural process in the cellar and vineyards; the couple does not fine or filter the wines, and just a small amount of sulfur is used at bottling. Their winemaking headquarters are located in Berkeley where they can implement their hands-on approach; they source grapes from Sierra Nevada, Mendocino, and Napa.
The Gadabout is an always delicious and very well priced wine. The vineyards and appellations may be changing and evolving from vintage to vintage, but the wine is consistently a crowd pleaser, and a fantastic warm weather quencher.

Enfield Wine Company, Fort Ross-Seaview Cabernet Sauvignon Waterhorse Ridge 2018
Regular price $75.00 Save $-75.00Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot
Enfield Wine Company is the passion project of John Lockwood and his wife Amy Seese. Founded in 2010, the project is very young, but despite that has recently started to gain attention nationwide. These are truly some of our favorites from California. John only uses native yeast and the wine is never filtered or cold stabilized. The growers he works with changes from year to year while he continues his relationships with small growers from some of California’s most special heritage sites. His passion is contagious and his energy unwavering.
Waterhorse Ridge is a special vineyard located on a rocky ridge a mere five miles from the Pacific. This site is among the coolest in the California area due to its proximity to the ocean, but is balanced by the volcanic rocky soils and its advantageous afternoon sunlight. The grapes were destemmed, but 20% of the stems were added back. The wine ages for 18 months in different sizes of French oak barrels, 15% of which is new. As John Lockwood said, “The wine is “seductively ripe while maintaining its elegance.”

Matthiasson, Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2019
Regular price $90.00 Save $-90.00Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot
This bottle is a classic example of how Cabernet Sauvignon blends well with its other Bordeaux variety friends—small amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The blend comprises of six vineyards across Napa drawn from Coombsville, Rutherford, and Oak Knoll appellations. This bottle spends 20 months in mixed barrels, 20% of which is new French oak.

Ashes & Diamonds, Red Hen Vineyard No.1 2016
Regular price $110.00 Save $-110.00Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon

Linda Lista comes from the West Oak Knoll area in Napa, one of the classic Chardonnay spots in Napa, which actually was planted by Beringer back in 1989. It is a cool climate area perfect for making fresh Chardonnay with precision while still able to lap up the Napa Valley sunshine. This undergoes two harvests, 80% of which is early and 20% of it later. The wine is aged in neutral French oak barrels.

Terratorium, Rose of Grenache, El Dorado, 2021
Regular price $26.00 Save $-26.00Variety: Grenache
Terratorium is a mindset of people and places joining forces. It all started with the Inside Winemaking Podcast that united three winemakers together, Cincinnati native Ben Matthews, Jim Duane and Cameron Laurent. After a winemaking seminar and a couple harvest gigs in Napa Valley, the friendship cemented a winery project based in central California in 2018. Terratorium comes from the word “terroir” which denotes the French way of saying “a sense of place.” The value of their wines is insane as they are direct to consumer. Cinci local Ben Matthews studied abroad in Germany as an undergrad political science major and discovered a love for Riesling which is where he caught the wine bug.
This is Terratorium’s first rosé and hails from Starfield Vineyard just west of the Sierra Nevada mountains in the El Dorado appellation. This Grenache makes for the perfect rosé which is fresh, dry, and juicy. The wine is versatile with food pairings and dying to be opened immediately. It’s aged for just five months before release.

Jolie Laide, Melon de Bourgogne Rodnick Farm Vineyard Chalone 2019
Regular price $28.00 Save $-28.00Variety: Melon de Bourgogne
Scott Schultz, the brainchild behind Jolie Lade wines, had made the journey all over the wine world before starting Jolie Lade. With stints as wine director for Thomas Keller’s Bouchon, and former assistant winemaker for Pax Wines, this formulated the plan for his future winemaking endeavors. Jolie Lade is a loose term for Pretty-Ugly, a French term that lends itself well to the unconventionally beautiful styles of Scott Schultz. He takes classic French varieties, many of them uncommon in the states, and raises them to be beautiful wines. Scott is a one-man operation (of both hands and feet) and does it well.
Melon de Bourgogne has uprooted from Muscadet in the Loire Valley, and now grows in a high altitude vineyard in California. The site is known as Rodnick Farm where it overlooks Monterey, California near the coast. In Muscadet, it would be standard to find fossilized oysters in the soils beneath the vines, but in this Cali site is decomposed granite and limestone from an extinct volcano. This is a perfect place for this Melon to thrive. The grapes are whole cluster fermented and then age for six months in concrete eggs on their lees. Chalky minerality and texture, citrus and acidity marry in this bottle.

Amplify Wines, Tempranillo C5 Vineyard 2018
Regular price $30.00 Save $-30.00Variety: Tempranillo
Cameron and Marlen Porter, a husband and wife team born and raised in Santa Barbara County. The exploration, and elevation, of this growing region has been their life's work. They first bonded over a shared love for wine and music, and Amplify is a natural extension of this marriage between their two greatest passions. As winemakers, they seek to amplify the voice of site and enhance the most singular characteristics of a given vineyard, marrying a sense of place with a sense of style. They believe in: native yeast fermentations; neutral vessels for fermentation and aging; no additions of any kind except for minimum effective sulfur dioxide; and farming that seeks to establish a healthy ecosystem, enhancing and supporting the natural characteristics of a given place. They embrace the happy accident, letting intuition guide our hand, with their creative spirit and palates as their primary tools.
The site in question, a new addition to their lineup, is the C5 Vineyard, planted on a mesa in Santa Ynez and reputed for noteworthy Tempranillo. The wine is inspired by Spanish classics of the same variety – think Rioja or Ribera del Duero -yet retains its modern Cali zip.

Ashes & Diamonds, Mountain Cuvee #1 Bates Ranch 2016
Regular price $120.00 Save $-120.00Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc
Bates Ranch is a historic vineyard that has now existed for four generations. In the southern part of Santa Cruz Mountains, the altitude here is up to 2100 feet where the Cabernet Sauvignon grows, and the old vine Cabernet Franc grows a few hundred feet below. The wines are co-fermented for 20 months in new American oak barrels (35%). The winemaker is acclaimed Diana Snowden.

Outward Wines, Gamay, Presqu'ile Vineyard 2021
Regular price $42.00 Save $-42.00Variety: Gamay Noir
Outward Wines is as much a project of terroir of the Central Coast of California as it is making wine with a gentle touch of the human element. The identity of Outward’s winemaking comes from the minds of Natalie Siddique and Ryan Pace, a partnership that’s deeply rooted in their global experiences making wine for others before coming together on Outward. All their vineyards are sourced within a short distance of the Pacific Coast where the climate is cooler. While low intervention is at the forefront of winemaking, a slight human element makes these wines particularly special.
Presqu'ile Vineyard is a unique site located in the southwest corner of Santa Maria Valley just a stone’s throw from the ocean. As Santa Maria is situated east to west, this allows the cool air from the ocean to keep the vines cool and extends the growing season. The site is certified organic and the Gamay was made in the whole cluster method. Less than 150 cases were produced.

Erggelet Brothers, Old Vine Mataro, 2018
Regular price $25.00 Save $-25.00Variety: Mataro
Julian and Sebastian Erggelet have unexpected origins; all the same, it makes perfect sense. The brothers grew up in southern Germany and were heavily inspired by the wines their grandfather would consume at the table. After spending years in non-wine career paths and working harvests in various countries. The brothers eventually arrived in Contra Costa County in 2014 fueled with passion to not only begin their own farm called The Urban Edge, and additionally working with several farmers around the area who’ve been farming for generations. California sunshine, “patience, a good sombrero, and German OCD” is what makes the Erggelet brothers the real deal in New California wine.
Mataro, a variety of Mediterranean descent, and otherwise known as Mourvedre in France, isn't widely planted in California, though this one certainly has us questioning why we don’t see more of it. The Errgelet brothers purchase fruit from ‘Del Barba’ Vineyard, the Del Barba family having farmed these same vines since the early 1900s. Century old vines yielding low amounts of fruit at a ridiculous price point—it’s simply outrageous.

Railsback Freres, Roman Ceremony Sauvignon Blanc 2021
Regular price $30.00 Save $-30.00Variety: Sauvignon Blanc
This bottle was heavily inspired by the famous wines of Château d’Yquem. In fact, the cuttings for the original vines come from the esteemed French wine, but today are grown in the Dairy Vineyard in Buellton, Santa Barbara. While this Sauvignon Blanc is distinctly Californian, the wine is a tribute to those Bordeaux Blanc wines of the past, as well as Rome, the birthplace of wine.

Hirsch Vineyards, 'Bohan-Dillon' Pinot Noir 2019
Regular price $50.00 Save $-50.00Variety: Pinot Noir
Stand above the fog line and glimpse the power of the Pacific at 1500 ft. elevation and you’ll begin to understand what attracted David Hirsch to his extreme site back in 1980. Hirsch was not born into the wine world. Rather he was a lover of pinot noir, more specifically Burgundy, to which I can very much relate. Buying and selling textiles between the US and France, he reached a turning point. The lure of a quiet farm life with his family brought him to Fort-Ross Seaview, on the Sonoma coast, just three hours from San Francisco. The property sits on a ridgeline, cleared of redwoods and fir trees with a climate that is incredibly coastal. Straddling the San Andreas Fault, the soils are intensely complex. Most world class vineyard sites are known for only having a few soils. Hirsch, on the other hand, has 44 different soil types. It should come as no surprise that this is one of the most expressive and important vineyards in the US.
Bohan-Dillon transcends what you may expect from Hirsch. Just as much as there is attention to detail is a level of drinkability with this bottle, which Hirsch encourages. “Bohan-Dillon” is the name of a road that runs north to south in Sonoma Coast, though is also named after Mike Bohan, who is noted as being the first modern wine grower there. This is an ode to the village level wines of France. The integrity is the same as the top wines, though the only difference is the time spent in the barrel, making for an accessible wine that can be drunk young. Bohan comes from 20 to 30 year old vines. This is aged in open-top tanks and then aged in French oak, 12% of which is new.
