Variety: Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay
A cap on his head and mud on his boots has made us instantly fall in love with Freddie Savart, a jolly former football (soccer) player turned world-class winemaker. Freddie’s wild creativity and experimentation is crafting Champagne that has the entire wine world talking. Savart champions Pinot Noir based Champagnes grown in the mineral rich soils of Montagne de Reims. He’s a force to be reckoned with and celebrates the romance of wine. His wines are for the thrill seekers, the wine geeks, and of course, the Champagne lovers.
Ephemere changes with each vintage; no two wines are the same. This one is a collab with Maison Dremont. The fruit comes from both 2015 and 2016 and ages for five years on its lees before release.
Egly Ouriet, Champagne Extra Brut Rose Grand Cru NVRegular price $240.00 Save $-240.00
Variety: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier
Right after WWII, the Egly-Ouriet house was born. Francis Egly’s grandfather married Madame Ouriet with just 3 hectares of land to start from the Grand Cru area of Ambonnay. After taking over from his father, Francis Egly immediately converted the domaine to 100% estate bottling. In the process, he became one of the original pioneers of the grower Champagne movement, growing his name to be one of the top Champagne producers. He organically farms Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, both being 50 years old on average. Francis implements varied barrel aging from 1 to 5 years of age, letting every terroir express itself. Wine writer Peter Liem states, “If there are any Champagnes that fit the often-used description of “Burgundy with bubbles,” Egly-Ouriet would be the leading candidate.”
This rose blends both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and is an interesting practice where 5% of Coteaux Champenois is also blended in. The vintages used are 2015-2017. The winemaking takes place in mostly used barrels and lees aging takes place for four years.
