      Variety: Chenin Blanc

      Francois and Manuéla are a husband and wife operation based in both Montlouis and Vouvray located in the central Loire Valley. In a region that produced bulk wine for years, particularly after WWII, the Chidaine duo brought an emphasis to wines of quality and regenerative farming; they also look to natural winemaking. One of their largest goals is to look to the future, “an effort to save the world.” Chidaine’s household wines are varying styles of Chenin Blanc from dry to off-dry to sparkling. Their inspired lineup includes classic reds and whites from the Loire made into vibrant, juicy styles ranging in price points. Their momentum only continues as they seek to better the world around them.

      Les Argiles is Chenin Blanc coming from 40 year old vines in the appellation of Montlouis coming from several different parcels. The juice is vinified almost completely dry with just 4 grams of residual sugar and goes on to age in both steel and small barrels.

      This may very well be the flagship wine of Chidaine. The Chenin is vinified into a dry fresh style, showcasing the potential of this grape variety. Clos du Breuil is known to be one of the classiest Chenins in the region. The wine is aged in both steel and small barrels with a racy, minerally intensity.

      Les Tuffeaux refers to the soil type here in Montlouis called “tuffe” which is soft white limestone. The Chenin is made in a semi-sweet style called demi-sec or “vin tendre”, or partially sweet. Even though the hint of sweetness is present, the natural acidity of the Chenin comes through making for a deliciously balanced wine. The wine is aged for up to six months in small barrels and almost a year on its lees for richness. This would be a wonderful wine to pair with seafood dishes or with soft cheeses from the Loire.

      Variety: Chenin Blanc

      Moelleux, pronounced “mull-yu” is a beautiful style of Chenin done in a style that is purposefully sweet. Harvest is a process as the Chenin requires multiple passes through the vineyards to pick the fruit that has experienced the sought after noble rot. The wine is bottled with about 22 grams of residual sugar, though the presence of the natural acidity in the Chenin balances the wine. It is wine destined for fruit-based desserts and custard tarts, or even a beautiful fromage selection.
