Gernot and Heike Heinrich founded their estate in Gols, Burgenland, in 1990, starting with a single hectare of family vineyards inherited from generations before them. What began as a small family operation grew into one of Austria's most respected estates, not through scale, but through a deliberate shift in philosophy. Where much of the wine world was moving toward intervention and technical precision, Heinrich moved in the opposite direction, turning attention back to the land, the lake, and the varieties that had defined Burgenland for centuries.
The estate farms vineyards on both sides of Lake Neusiedl, one of Central Europe's great natural landmarks and a defining force on the region's climate and soils. Around Gols, vines grow in gravel, limestone, and loam formed by the ancient Pannonian Sea. Across the lake, the Leithaberg slopes are defined by limestone and schist, producing wines with structure and freshness that have drawn international attention to the region. In 2006, Heinrich converted the entire estate to biodynamic farming, placing soil health, biodiversity, and the rhythms of the land at the center of every decision made in the vineyard and cellar.
Native yeast fermentations, neutral vessels, and minimal intervention in the cellar allow each wine to speak clearly of its variety, vintage, and place of origin. Heinrich is widely regarded as one of Austria's leading biodynamic producers and a key figure in the country's natural wine movement, but the wines themselves are the clearest argument for the approach. They are precise, alive, and deeply rooted in where they come from.
Kind of Blue is a sparkling Blaufränkisch from biodynamically farmed vineyards in Burgenland. Fermented with native yeasts, the wine completes its secondary fermentation in bottle in the traditional pétillant naturel method and is bottled unfined and unfiltered. Bright red fruit, fine lees character, and a savory mineral edge are carried by lively acidity and the energy that comes from bottle fermentation.

WINE SHIPPING WITHIN THE UNITED STATES
Hart & Cru is happy to engage the services of a common carrier on behalf of you/the customer. However, upon purchase, ownership of and title to all alcoholic beverages passes from Hart & Cru to you/the buyer in the State of Ohio. In the case of shipments outside of Ohio, the sole responsibility for complying with local regulations lies with the customer. By placing an order on this site and selecting shipping, you authorize Hart & Cru to act on your behalf to engage a common carrier to deliver your order to you.
All ‘Ground Shipping’ orders placed after 12pm on Wednesday will be shipped on Monday the following week in order to avoid bottles being held in non-temperature controlled facilities over the weekend. Orders placed before noon with 2-Day Air selected will be shipped the same day or on the date requested. We are happy to store your order for you until you are able to receive delivery. Please include note specifying desired ship date or reach out to us at thecru@hartandcru.com for any other requests.
The cost of shipping varies depending on which shipping option the buyer selects, as well as destination and number of bottles. The appropriate shipping rates will be calculated at checkout.
All orders will be sent with a 21+ signature as is legally required. The carrier delivering your order will be unable to leave the package on your front door, back porch, etc. without sign-off. Please ensure someone is home to receive. In the event that a shipment cannot be delivered due to an incorrect address provided by the purchaser, or after three delivery attempts by the carrier, Hart & Cru reserves the right to charge the purchaser the applicable carrier fee for rerouting to an alternative address or re-shipping to the same address.
