Join us for a rare evening of conversation, insight, and exceptional wine as we explore the future of California farming through the perspective of one of Napa Valley’s most respected growers and winemakers.
Steve Matthiasson has become one of the most important voices in modern California wine. Known for his deep commitment to responsible farming, biodiversity, and vineyard stewardship, Steve’s work has helped redefine what thoughtful agriculture looks like in Napa Valley today. His wines are celebrated for their balance, restraint, and transparency.
Steve was named San Francisco Chronicle Winemaker of the Year, and his farming work has earned recognition throughout the wine world for championing sustainable and regenerative vineyard practices long before they became industry buzzwords.
For many years Hart & Cru has proudly supported Steve’s wines, sharing them with our community and celebrating the integrity behind his farming and winemaking. Steve is also a friend of Kevin and the Hart & Cru team, making this evening feel less like a formal lecture and more like an intimate conversation with one of California’s most thoughtful producers.
In this seminar-style event, Steve Matthiasson will join Kevin Hart of Hart & Cru for a live conversation about the evolving challenges and opportunities facing California agriculture and wine today. Topics will range from climate change and sustainable farming to shifting consumer habits and the long term future of California vineyards.
Following the discussion, guests will enjoy a guided tasting of nine Matthiasson wines, offering a deeper look at how farming decisions translate directly into what we taste in the glass. This evening is designed for curious drinkers, wine lovers, and anyone interested in the future of food, farming, and California wine.

Steve is regarded as one of the leading voices shaping modern California viticulture, championing responsible farming, biodiversity, and thoughtful vineyard stewardship. A James Beard Award winner and San Francisco Chronicle Winemaker of the Year, he has also influenced many of California’s top wineries through his work as a vineyard consultant, promoting sustainable and regenerative practices.

Kevin is founder of HART & CRU. With roots in Cincinnati’s top restaurants and deep ties to global producers, he brings a thoughtful, curated approach to wine, blending education, experience and most importantly, hospitality. He’s a long-time friend of Mercantile Library.

WINE SHIPPING WITHIN THE UNITED STATES
Hart & Cru is happy to engage the services of a common carrier on behalf of you/the customer. However, upon purchase, ownership of and title to all alcoholic beverages passes from Hart & Cru to you/the buyer in the State of Ohio. In the case of shipments outside of Ohio, the sole responsibility for complying with local regulations lies with the customer. By placing an order on this site and selecting shipping, you authorize Hart & Cru to act on your behalf to engage a common carrier to deliver your order to you.
All ‘Ground Shipping’ orders placed after 12pm on Wednesday will be shipped on Monday the following week in order to avoid bottles being held in non-temperature controlled facilities over the weekend. Orders placed before noon with 2-Day Air selected will be shipped the same day or on the date requested. We are happy to store your order for you until you are able to receive delivery. Please include note specifying desired ship date or reach out to us at thecru@hartandcru.com for any other requests.
The cost of shipping varies depending on which shipping option the buyer selects, as well as destination and number of bottles. The appropriate shipping rates will be calculated at checkout.
All orders will be sent with a 21+ signature as is legally required. The carrier delivering your order will be unable to leave the package on your front door, back porch, etc. without sign-off. Please ensure someone is home to receive. In the event that a shipment cannot be delivered due to an incorrect address provided by the purchaser, or after three delivery attempts by the carrier, Hart & Cru reserves the right to charge the purchaser the applicable carrier fee for rerouting to an alternative address or re-shipping to the same address.
