The Tasting Room Turns Five

26 seats.
A lot of love.
And a lot of bottles.

Hart & Cru began in 2015, but five years ago, on October 15, 2021, we opened the doors to our little tasting room at 1206 Broadway Street.

There was a lot of excitement among our team and very little understanding of what the next five years might bring. But there was one thing we knew. We would approach what we were building with intention.

We would hold ourselves accountable to telling the stories of producers we love, operating at the highest level we could, and treating these four walls as more than just a place of work. We wanted to build something our team could make a career out of, a place we could all be proud of, and something we would strive to make a little better every single day.

Five years later, I am incredibly proud of what our current team, and every team member who has been part of this journey, has invested in Hart & Cru and our intimate little space on Broadway in Pendleton. Our quiet corner of downtown that we love so deeply.

The vinyl that has spun nearly every day for five years. The food our team cooks from our tiny kitchen. The laughter that has filled the room night after night. The smiles of friends catching up on life. We've witnessed engagements, celebrated birthdays, comforted one another through loss, and helped turn bad days into good ones. We've shared countless conversations, pulled countless corks, and, somewhere along the way, created a little escape from everyday life.

And then there are the incredible chefs, winemakers, and friends from around the world who have walked through our doors. People who have generously shared their craft, their stories, their wines, and their food with our guests.

We've had the privilege of welcoming some truly extraordinary people into a room of just 26 seats. The dinners, tastings, conversations, and friendships that have come from those evenings are among the things I treasure most. It's a reminder that great hospitality isn't about the size of a room, but about the people who fill it and the experiences we share.

I've always loved the idea of the third space. Not work. Not home. But somewhere people can go to find peace, connection, inspiration, and a sense of belonging. I believe every neighborhood needs places like this, and everyone deserves to find a space that brings them comfort and joy.

Five years after we pulled our first cork, and hundreds of thousands of glasses later, it brings me tremendous joy to know how many people have come to love these four walls, the people who work within them, and the farmers and producers whose wines we are fortunate enough to share. People who dedicate their lives to farming with intention, preserving traditions, and carrying forward generations of cultural history through wine.

Relationships matter. Honesty matters. Being truthful, vulnerable, and authentic with one another is part of what makes us human. I believe those things are at the heart of a life well lived, and for the last five years, we've tried to make them part of everything we do at Hart & Cru.

Thank you for believing in us. For supporting our team, for sharing your lives with us, and for allowing our little corner of Broadway to become part of yours.

Thank you to every person who has worked within these walls and helped make this place what it is today. And thank you to our incredibly loyal guests, friends, and supporters who continue to give us a reason to do what we love.

Here's to five years,
another five to come,
and hopefully many, many
more after that.
With love and gratitude, Kevin & The Cru
