Variety: Pinot Noir
Aubert de Villaine deserves more than the praise he receives. He is a reluctant hero, an unlikely trait in a man of such esteem and intellect. Heir to one of the most enviable wine legacies of all time, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, he assumed his role in the 1960’s as co-director of DRC. In the 1970’s he moved to the Bouzeron where he could make his own wines without the demands of an international reputation. He is largely to thank for his advocacy of making Bouzeron its own AOC in 1997, upgraded by the INAO. Each wine he creates, whether it be Bouzeron, Rully, Mercurey, or regional Bourgogne, is a fruit of his talent and passion.
This is a rare bottling as the vintage of 2021 yielded less harvest than usual. This a blend of fruit that typically would’ve gone into Villaine’s single cru bottlings. The fruit comes from vines in both Rully in the Cote Chalonnaise and a Premier Cru plot in Santenay.
