A surprising turn of events occurred when two lifelong friends were playing cards together in a cafe in Abruzzo. Somewhere nearby, they heard mention of an ancient farm being put on the market. Each with his own natural interest in wine, they ventured to see the property. There they found a haven of olive groves, several hectares of grains, and an ancient observation tower that had been there since the 11th century. Dreams became reality, farmland became vineyards, and oak barrels were purchased. Humble farming turned organic certification. Today the friends produce world class wines at incredible value from the humble region of Abruzzo.
Legend has it that the pecorino grape variety takes its name from the word “pecora” which means sheep. The story goes the sheep really took to the sweetish character of the grapes and would munch on these while simultaneously fertilizing the vineyards.
