He's changed very little save moving away from using new oak to let the terroir shine a bit more. Situated in the village of Vosne-Romanee, the Cathiards make the best of their tiny lot. They may be a small producer, but they are blessed with strong terroir settled into sunny hillsides. The phrases, \"fruit purity\" and \"textural depth\" come up a lot when discussing this producer.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis Pinot comes from a single vineyard on the lower slopes of their Gevrey-Chambertin property called \u003cem\u003eChamp Franc\u003c\/em\u003e. The 0.33 ha plot boasts 40 year old vines situated in clay on top of limestone. Vinified with 100% de-stemmed grapes, the wine is spontaneously fermented over 10-30 days, after which it spends 15-18 months in barrel. 50% of the barrels are new oak in this vintage.
