Stolpman Vineyards, Combe Trousseau Ballard Canyon 2017Regular price $32.00 Save $-32.00
Founded over 20 years ago by Tom Stolpman when he discovered hidden in the hills of California’s Central Coast a rare limestone outcropping unobstructed from the Pacific Ocean wind which became part of the now famous Ballard Canyon AVA. The winery is currently run by son Pete Stolpman and his wife Jessica. Known for employing their own crew "La Quadrilla", the vineyards are maintained only by hand with care and dedication.
Around 2010 Rajat Parr was convinced that planting the difficult growing Trousseau on the Stolpman Estate could produce some interesting wines. This is exactly what happened. The wines are insanely small in production, the first vintage was 2014, and now have 2.3 acres of Trousseau that have been planted. 70% de-stemmed and 30% whole cluster, the grapes are crushed under foot in concrete and then circulated via pump over throughout fermentation. The wine then ages 8 months in Neutral French 500L Puncheons until bottled. These are classified as Natural wine. They are light-bodied and juicy with showcasing some classic savory tones for a light red.
