Pio Cesare, Nebbiolo d'Alba 2016Regular price $45.00 Save $-45.00
Serralunga, La Morra, these are vineyards that hold the highest pedigree for Nebbiolo. Pio Cesare holds a similar pedigree, being considered not only one of the best producers of Barolo, Barbaresco and Nebbiolo d’Alba in Piedmont, but is also a traditionalist in a region where made-to-drink-immediately Nebbiolos are becoming more commonplace. The difference is, in a word, botti. For two years this wine, sourced from the vineyards mentioned above, among others, sit in those enormous botti, and only finishes for a brief time in French oak barrique. Ripe fruit woven seamlessly with sweet tannin is one of the hallmarks of great Nebbiolo, and this one does not disappoint. Also possesses an ageing potential similar to its big-boy cousins Barolo and Barbaresco.
