Sashi Moorman has been making Syrah in the Central Coast for about two decades. Among the talent pool in modern California winemaking, Sashi is squarely at the forefront. With Piedrasassi, one of his several West Coast winemaking projects, Syrah done in a rather Old World style is his medium. Along with Syrah, Piedrasassi also creates bread on site, an ode to the agricultural traditions of the region. Together, bread and wine represent the sacred symbols of both culture and religion while clearly making for a pairing almost as old as time. Sashi operates the Piedrasassi with Melissa, and her daughter, Juliet, who make the bread and tie the entity together.
Some of this Syrah comes from the historic Bien Nacido vineyard in Santa Maria Valley while the other fruit comes from Harrison Clarke Vineyard in Ballard Canyon. The wine is bright with plenty of energy, which is Sashi’s ode to the Syrahs of France.
