The small home they purchased incidentally came with some vineyards. While Alberto initially had no plans to make wine, the thought of farming nagged at him, and so, a winemaker was born. He invested in winemaking tools, eventually setting up shop in his garage. Conventional farming then turned into organic and biodynamic, an impressive feat for a region prone to viticultural difficulties, even using seaweed from the nearby Atlantic for composting. Alberto is making incredible grower Albariño, as well as other local varieties at incredible value. As the project grew as well as demands for the wine, a young winemaker Silvia came on board to assist Alberto, possibly with the intent to take over when he does actually retire. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003eO Son das Pisadas is 100% Mencía from the Eira Padín parcel in Castrelo, where 40-year-old vines grow on sandy-loam soils over granite. The grapes are hand harvested, foot-trodden whole cluster, and fermented with native yeasts before spending 11 months on its lees in a 300-liter used French oak barrel.
