De Montille is among the most talented of Burgundy winemakers today. Hubert de Montille, whose winery is located in the village of Volnay, was making wine during the “Robert Parker Era.” He could have changed his style to make wines with structure and power, but he was nothing of the sort and stuck with the house style of wines with minerality and tannic extraction. His son, Etienne, opted to change the family style slightly, going for a clean, less tannic style. Regardless, the wines are invigorating and some of the best Burgundy has to offer.
This is a wildly under the radar white Burgundy. The wine comes from within the village of Puligny-Montrachet. The vineyard is a “Clos” of the chateau, a walled vineyard. Fresh and minerally, this wine may change what many might think of as Chardonnay.
