Il Poggione continues to set the standard for quality. The winery was one of the first Montalcino producers to market their wines in the early 1900s and also one of the first to become members of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium, an association that worked to bring Montalcino to the global spotlight. Leopoldo and Livia continue the tradition and legacy of the ones before them coupled with modern craft. Today, even with the large scale of Il Poggione’s production, the winery continues to make wines of profound quality, a feat that remains unparalleled in the rest of the wine world, let alone Tuscany.
This is Sangiovese coming from 20 year old vines on the slopes of Montalcino. The winemaking process involves three years in French oak barrels before going to age in bottle for an additional twelve months. This style is bold and structured, though with elegance and potential to age for years.
