Hirsch was not born into the wine world, beginning as a lover of Pinot Noir. The lure of a quiet farm life with his family brought him to Fort-Ross Seaview, on the Sonoma coast, just three hours from the Bay area. The property sits on a ridgeline, cleared of redwoods and fir trees with a coastal climate. Straddling the San Andreas Fault, the soils are intensely complex. Hirsch has 44 different soil types, making it one of the most expressive and important vineyards in the US. His daughter, Jasmine, took over as winemaker in 2019.

West Ridge was greatly inspired by David’s trip to Mount Eden Vineyards in 1989. He took cuttings from Eden, planting Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to West Ridge. The lineage of the vines from this site go back to the 1900s when Paul Masson originally brought them from Burgundy to the Santa Cruz Mountains.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0268/9076/4311/files/Hirsch_Vineyards_Pinot_Noir_West_Ridge_2021.jpg?v=1726586270
