Gut Oggau, 'Timotheus,' Weiss Burgenland 2022
Variety: Gruner Veltliner, Weissburgunder
Gut Oggau is a relatively new project started in just 2007, though the winery itself has existed since the 17th century in Burgenland, Austria. It was a merging of the talents of Stephanie whose family owned a local Michelin star restaurant and Eduard’s history of making wine with his father in Styria. While it’s a shame the winery was abandoned for 20 years, farming started fresh with no traces of chemicals in the vineyards further allowing the couple to farm biodynamically. As they worked with all manner of vines young to old, the couple noticed that each wine and vineyard site had a personality, and so they’ve allowed each wine label to display corresponding family members.
Timotheus makes friends easily and so does this Gruner and Pinot Blanc blend. Some of the fruit ferments on skins for three weeks while the rest ferments as a traditional white would, then it is blended. It ages in neutral barrels for a year and has no added sulfur.
