Variety: Pinot Noir
Domaine Forey’s estate dates back to 1840, created by the great grandfather of current proprietor, Régis. Since the first visit to the Forey domain in 1982, the wines were exported immediately since that initial visit when importer Neal Rosenthal tasted the 1980 vintage. Jean Forey was making the wine at this time, and his son Jean began full-time operations in 1987. He became fully responsible for all wine making decisions with the 1989 vintage. Different from the wines of his father, who produced seductive wines with finesse and elegance, Régis chose to showcase the masculine side of Burgundy with wines of intensity and depth. The family holdings include Nuits Saint Georges, Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Echezeaux.
The fruit comes from just one hectare of fruit spread amongst 14 different parcels in Vosne Romanee. The oldest vines are almost 80 years old; though the average age of them is 40 years old. Oak ageing lasts 16 to 20 months in variously sized smaller barrels. Vosne Romanee is known as the village with the highest acclaim in the Côte d'Or. What the wines lack in fleshiness, they make up for in distinctive minerality.
