Variety: Pinot Noir
Domaine Forey’s estate dates back to 1840, created by the great grandfather of current proprietor, Régis. Since the first visit to the Forey domain in 1982, the wines were exported immediately since that initial visit when importer Neal Rosenthal tasted the 1980 vintage. Jean Forey was making the wine at this time, and his son Jean began full-time operations in 1987. He became fully responsible for all wine making decisions with the 1989 vintage. Different from the wines of his father, who produced seductive wines with finesse and elegance, Régis chose to showcase the masculine side of Burgundy with wines of intensity and depth. The family holdings include Nuits Saint Georges, Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Echezeaux.
The vines are 30 to 50 years in age from two parcels in Morey Saint Denis. The wine spends 16 to 20 months in smaller oak barrels, 10% of which are new. This is village level Burgundy, though with the attention to detail that Forey applies to many of their Premier Cru bottles.
