Domaine Forey’s estate dates back to 1840, created by the great grandfather of current proprietor, Régis. Since the first visit to the Forey domain in 1982, the wines were exported immediately since that initial visit when importer Neal Rosenthal tasted the 1980 vintage. Jean Forey was making the wine at this time, and his son Jean began full-time operations in 1987. He became fully responsible for all wine making decisions with the 1989 vintage. Different from the wines of his father, who produced seductive wines with finesse and elegance, Régis chose to showcase the masculine side of Burgundy with wines of intensity and depth. The family holdings include Nuits Saint Georges, Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Echezeaux.
Echezeaux is a Grand Cru vineyard site coming from the village of Flagey-Échezeaux, situated next to Vougeot and Vosne Romanee. The vines at this site range in age from plantings in 1949 all the way up to 2004. The wine ages in smaller 228 liter barrels for 16 to 20 months, 20 to 50% of which are new. This is a Grand Cru with strength, agility, and energy. Foray’s Echezeaux is not to be missed; an insane collectors item for any cellar. The original site was founded by local monks during the 12th and 13th centuries.
