Elisabetta Foradori is one of the biggest talents coming out of Italy today. Both her persona and her wines are playful and elegant, yet serious and purposeful. She took over the Foradori estate in Trentino at the age of 20 when her father passed. In the area of Campo Rotaliano, the production of the Teroldego variety had become largely industrial using the dominant clone. She fought long and hard to diversify this variety so that the true colors of the Teroldego could show. Though her farming began conventionally, it grew from certified organic to certified biodynamic. Initially her winemaking was more heavy handed, though now it has a lighter touch with the usage of large barrels and clay amphorae. It’s clear that her name is not going anywhere.
Morei means “dark” in the Trentino dialect. The saturated inky color of the Teroldego after it spends eight months ageing on the skins reinstates this. The wine ages in Spanish amphorae called tinajas from Spain, which is perfect as Elisabetta does not want any outside influence to her final product.
