Variety: Grechetto and Trebbiano Spolentino
The region of Montefalco has long been known for conventional farming. There have been two serious winemakers to bring a sense of place to their winemaking; that would be the projects of Paolo Bea and Angelo Fongoli. Angelo is running not just a winery, but a polycultural farm that has been certified organic while also implementing biodynamic practices. The farm also sees a plethora of olives trees and natural truffles. The winemaking is minimal at most. The white wines see some extension of skin contact and several of the wines are aged in amphora. Angelo and wife Letizia are making some of the finest wines out of Umbria.
While this wine does see skin-contact, the Trebbiano grapes are only macerated on the skins for two days. Trebbiano is blended with its classic counterpart Grechetto to make a classic wine representation of Umbria. The wine is completely natural with no added sulphur.
