This valley has a fascinating location with a lengthy history. Located between the foothills of Mont Blanc near the French border, alongside the Dora Baltea River, a tributary of the Po river. The Pavese family’s headquarters and home are in the hamlet of La Ruine near the municipality of Morgex. The Prié Blanc variety has origins in the Vallée d’Aosta, but ancestry is possible from Switzerland or Spain. The weather conditions are extreme for growing grapes; tradition in this region is to train the vines using the low pergola system. This allows the vines to stay closer to the ground to capture the heat radiating from the soil. The foothills are steep enough that Ermes has opted to incorporate stepping stones into the side of the slopes in his vineyards.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\"\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003eThe 2025 Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle is made from 100% Prié Blanc grown at high elevations around Morgex and La Salle. The vines remain on their own original rootstock, as the extreme altitude helped protect them from phylloxera. Traditionally trained using the low pergola system, the vineyards reach some of the highest elevations in European viticulture.
