Fifth-generation winemaker Jean-Louis Dutraive’s father (Jean) purchased this vineyard property, situated in the cru appellation of Fleurie, in 1969. Jean-Louis succeeded him as winemaker in 1989, transforming the winegrowing operation to organic (certified 2009). In general, wines from the Domaine de la Grand’Cour are aromatic, finely textured, with excellent depth of flavor. This wine, from the Champagne lieu-dit, can age for more than a decade. After fermentation and SO2-free carbonic maceration in concrete, the 2018 vintage was matured in neutral oak for 8 months and is both unfined and unfiltered. As the name of the appellation suggests (Fleurie = floral), benchmark wines from this cru appellation are fruity—red berries and peach – with floral aromas of peony, violet, iris, and rose. Fleurie is widely considered to be the most feminine of all 10 Beaujolais Crus and will develop some sweet spice notes as it ages.
