When it comes to iconic Burgundy producers, there are just a handful that not only make sought after bottles, but have the journey to complete the story. The story of Domaine Mortet follows three generations of established men, each with his own vision. Charles Mortet founded the domain in 1956 with just one hectare. When his son Denis took over, the domain had grown slowly to 4.5 hectares. Their focus was to grow over time, steadily taking on more vineyards. After the tragic death of Denis in 2006, young Arnaud brought forth a sense of energy and imagination. Incredibly, the changes that Arnaud has made have brought this Burgundy producer to a new status of quality due to his minimalist tendencies and organic forward practices.
Marsannay is a village located in the Cote de Nuits in northern Burgundy. Nearby is the city of Dijon and the villages of Fixin and Gevrey Chambertin. “Les Longeroies” is one of the best sites in Marsannay; currently it’s on the waiting list for promotion to Premier Cru level. The vines are over 50 years in age. The fruit is completely destemmed and ageing for 18 months in wood, 25% of which is new.
