Daniel et Julien Barraud, Saint-Veran Arpege 2019Regular price $26.00 Save $-26.00
The Barraud family has been making wine in the same hamlet of Vergisson since 1905. Five generations later, father Daniel and son Julien are at the helm of viticulture and winemaking while sister and daughter to them respectively, take care of administrative and commercial aspects. The most fascinating part of Vergisson may very well be “La Roche of Vergisson.” This rock simply resides above the town as if it was the focal point of the entire region of Burgundy; as such, these are the highest altitudes in the Maconnais region. The family owns the best and oldest vines of the region.
The French word “arpege” means harmony, and this wine bears this idea in mind while it oozes with minerality and intensity. The fruit comes from vines 25 years or so in age from the village of Saint-Veran in the Macon area of southern Burgundy. It’s aged in older barrels, keeping the integrity of precise fruit, acidity, and minerality.
