Variety: Mourvèdre and Cinsault
There are just a handful of producers in Bandol that have stood the test of time with benchmark quality. Eric de Saint-Victoire has been making quality wines since 1975 at his domain in the highest altitude in the appellation. The vines create an amphitheater perched above the Mediterranean Sea. The entire range of his wines are considered “vin de garde,” or wines to age, including the rose wines. Even though the soils are poor blue marl and limestone, the vines are challenged to yield complex wines.
This rose made from both Mourvedre and Cinsault makes for a dry, savory, and textured wine that will age easily for a couple years. It’s aged just in steel to retain all the freshness of the fruit and minerality. This bottle needs other Provencal cuisine like olives, bouillabaisse, and ratatouille.
