You don’t hear much about the Sicilian mafia these days, except maybe in the movies. One reason is that the Sicilian Libera Terra social co-operative seized a large collection of vineyard properties in the Upper Belice Corleonese (western Sicily) and named the winemaking entity Centopassi (“one hundred steps”). Because of its limestone base, ample sunshine, and exposure to Mediterranean breezes, this beautiful winegrowing region is particularly well suited for high quality wine production. “Giato” is the name of the old district surrounding an ancient Greek theater on top of Mount Jato.
