Cara Sur began in just 2011 as an idea that formed on the ideas of two winemaking couples. Wines are made in the region of San Juan, just north of Mendoza. While the region makes wines just as compelling as Mendoza, San Juan is often overshadowed. The two couples thrive in making the traditional varieties of Argentina, often utilizing vineyard sites about 80 years in age. Their wines are perspective are unique as they tout serveral underrated sites. Cara Sur means "south face," referring to the challenges of growing vines on the tall peak of Cerro Mercedario.
Moscatel Tinto is a much less popular mutation of the more widely known Moscato variety and made into a dry red wine with plenty of red fruits, floral, and forest floor. This comes from a high altitude vineyard from vines about 70 years in age and done with a bit of carbonic fermentation.
